Blackwell’s Bane
Another piece of history, this one the 2009 Championship held at Jagorawi, including the 9 hole Z course, to decide the first winner of the Des Murray Perpetual Trophy.
They clearly had handicaps sorted in those days with a mere net 73 being the winning score from Ian Barr and with 3 Tee Setters tied for the runner up spot.
Interestingly skirts etc. were not mentioned in the report, however, the VP of Almost Everything distinctly remembers one Geoff Blackwell shooting 22 on one of the Z course holes at the event, a quite stunning total and one that has yet to be surpassed.
Dear All.
Sunday 6th December saw our last high-profile event played for 2009, the Tee Set Championship. Of the 72 players registered for the event we ended up with 67 starters and 65 finishers. Mel Meeds and John Suermondt disappeared for an early shower after succumbing to the gruelling conditions. Nevertheless it was probably the best turn out ever for a Championship event.
A one-off opportunity to secure a quality Pin High golf shirt embossed with the TS logo and other goodies on offer for participating players no doubt helped to build the numbers. The goodie bag, trophies, wine, lucky draw prizes, smooothies, Bloody Marys, beer and other cold drinks, breakfast, lunch and other give aways were all made possible due to the contributions from our sponsors who were as follows:
Geoff Thwaites of Kojo, OB of Control Risks, Peter Reichlmeier of Seascape Surveys, Ric Wymer of Fugro, Mark Aitken of Hotel Kristal, Jack Calcote of Asiaserv, Anthony Sinclair and Paul Cross of Sinar Nirwana Distriusi, Peter Wallace of JIB FP. Edwin Palmer of Jagorawi Country Club made the course available to us on a Sunday at an affordable rate.
Thanks to the girls of Star Deli and The Bar (Rosie and her sister, Tata, Rindi, Ita) that came down to help out with the registration and on the course keeping everyone lubricated with smoothies. Also thanks to Jamal, Lis, Tammy who helped out on the day and to Peter Reichlmeier who did the majority of the chasing and running around getting sponsors, trophies, caterers, post scoring and fixing the handicaps.
Since this was the Tee Set Championship event the main trophy for lowest net result could only be won by a Tee Set regular. Nevertheless all other categories were up for grabs and competition was fierce as seen in the attached results sheet. In summary winners were:

All in all it was a great day and worthy of a Championship event. Can’t wait for next year.
Next week Tee Set will be at Pangkalan Jati to support Lynleigh Evens in her quest to break 90 before her return to Sydney at the end of the month. Lynleigh has been a keen participant of Tee Set over the last couple of years and we won’t let her go without a booze party. A B-B-Q lunch has been organized after Sunday’s game but you have to come and join Lynleigh to find out where it will be.
So come on down this Sunday to PJ for the 08:00 tee time. Unfortunately the course is closed to the public after 12PM so we have to take this early tee time.
Regards, Ric
