Kedaton, Sunday 5th June 2011

A piece of history as Mrs Pie came across this e-mail Newsletter by the Vice-President of Almost Everything from 2011 – interesting to see so many familiar names, a familiar gripe over Kedaton beer pricing and indeed how few words (and no graphics or photos) it took in those days to get over the essence!!!

Dear All,

Final attempt to get a quick write up out before the end of the week.

Wina as a Kedaton club member managed to get us a good rate although sadly failed to get a members discount on the richly overpriced beer. Suggest bringing our own next time.

I understand Wina has been a club member for 10 years and has never once 4 putted……until last Sunday! That’s a fabulous record Wina and a shame you had to blow it playing Tee Set. Nevertheless it fired her up for the rest of the round enabling her to take low nett with a 70.

Santi Miller also played inspired golf and took out low gross despite dumping her second shot into the water on the very last hole. Her final putt was from 20’ and she nailed it.

Welcome to new player Jeff Leaver from South Africa. Welcome back players were Jesse Baker, Jean and Martin Zachary, Peter Carver, Craig Binks, Peter Wallace, Chipper, Sandy and Wally Walters.

Sandy has developed a copybook swing of late but just needs a rocket assisted ball to get her more distance.

Overall everyone enjoyed the day and was thankful of not having to take on the Jagorawi toll traffic on the way home. The quick drive (1 hour) back to Kemang Star Deli completed an excellent day.

Results as follows:

Low Gross with 88 by Santi Miller

Low Nett with 70 by Wina

Low Putts with 29 by James Ross

1st birdie on #2 by Rob Chugg

1st Sandy on #11 by Geoff Thwaites

1st par >30 went to Sandy Walters on #16

Most Improved with 10 strokes by Alex Holl

Monster Putter with 45 by JK Foster

Most Strokes on a hole also went to JK for picking up. That’s a certain way to win this penalty.

Only one skirt and this was from G.W.Hall

Next Sunday June 12th 2011 we are at Jagorawi Country Club for the next round of Interleague Match Play. Tee Set will tee off straight after the match players are away. Hope to see you all there.

Regards,

Ric

    Hi there.

I am the Jeff Leaver from South Africa referred to in the newsletter. I was part of the Tee Set rank and file on and off for about 18 months, really really enjoyable. Sadly balmy golf days in Jakarta are a thing of the past for me, none-the-less I am an avid reader of Tee Set correspondence and, I wear a rapidly fading orange golf shirt (2012 issue?) with pride and a sense of nostalgia.

A special thanks to Ric who was my first host.

    Keep golfing.

    Hi Jeff,

Good to hear from you again and thanks for the rap. It always gave me pleasure to see new players joining our group from all over the world with hardly a complaint from anyone about how the show was run. Simple formula… throw new comers into flights made up of hard drinking, rough talking but generally hospitable long term Jakarta residents and see how they got on. The majority always came back for another round sooner rather than later.

The orange shirt was very popular but I have a number of spares from the following years that have been just as popular. if you ever get back to this part of the world you can grab a vintage Tee Set model for a song. 🙂

Nice to know you are still following the group from afar. Happy golfing going forward.

    Best regards,
    Ric

      Hi Ric,

Just like Jeff I really enjoy keeping up with the news and the stories – always makes me smile. You’lI probably recall I played T Set from 2001 to 2007 and was introduced by Joel Puzey, played some Interleague with his son and one of the worlds most red blooded blokes Scott, great fun being around them always. Then came the legendary Mat Harter. I could go on.

Keep up the good work and I really must try and play on my next visit.

Kind regards from a cold, wet London!

      Phil Mckean.

        Hi Phil,
Agree quite a few legends have come and gone. We see Scott every year at the Bali Classic and last year he finally won the event. If you look on the web page under gallery you’ll find some old photos submitted by ex president John Murt. Mostly from around 2001 so check them out.
If you come to Jakarta join Tee Set for a hit. We have plenty of spare club sets to suit your game.
        Cheers,
        Ric
