FOREPLAY
A second marriage is alleged to be the finest example there is of the triumph of hope over experience, though, surely, anybody who thought he would get in a game of golf in the Jakarta area this past weekend after the rains we have had during the week run it pretty close.
MODERN Golf Club, however, was to turn out to be a very welcoming, hospitable and playable distraction for our 25 Tee Set optimists on Sunday.
Cantik if not especially talented caddies, fairways and bunkers wet but playable and amazingly hard greens despite the rain and floods over the past week. The scheduled Tee time of 11am was a bit ambitious considering the conditions, so a delay of just 10 minutes and with just one or two flights penetrating our defences, this was pretty acceptable and everyone got around in five hours or less.
Yes, our Pawang Hujan had done it again, no stoppage or delay due to rain, making it a 100% successful record so far this year. Many thanks Graham with your direct line to the Rain Gods in the sky, but it’s premature to talk of performance bonuses. The usual Pawang Hujan scam is, you pay me now and if it doesn’t rain I keep the money, but if it does rain I keep the money anyway. We have McGeady’s services engaged on a rather different remuneration scheme.
Sending your intention to play has proven super successful and makes life easy for our administration to get us away on time. Please continue to advise your intention to play. 26 registered and 25 played this week. Two cancellations due to sickness and one got lost (Oh Craig, how did you manage that?) which means 2 came without registering. Good enough.
Keith Miller came (very nearly) straight from his hospital bed to the golf course and was able to complete 14 of the 18 holes. Good effort and thanks for the web site, Keith.
One minor winge and that is that some of our most valued players leave the venue prior to the issue of prizes and photo opps. Please try to stay just a little longer to make the experience that much better for the group. Thank you in anticipation.
All the photos from the day can be seen here.
HIGHLIGHTS
Craig Binks got lost and was pulled over by the police for making a number of highly illegal u-turns. Never made it to the course due to running out of money .
Joseph Peries being out gunned by Evaldo for longest drive by one metre.
A fine addition to the Tee Set wardrobe thanks to Santi Miller’s donation of a rather fetching wig. A few tried it on after the game including Evaldo Roos who earned
the very last hole – making it two weeks in a row.
Ivan Byriel’s handicap has fallen below 30 for the first time depriving him of his only present source of income. The shock was enough to put him in hospital. We all wish Ivan a speedy recovery so he can put more cards in to recover the situation.
Keith Miller used so much effort on the longest drive hole he had to retire immediately after the shot.
James Young taking low nett but is yet to rack up 5 cards with Tee Set. A fantastic back 9 to go 46-38-84.
Monster Putter with just 34 was Chris Smith – too low for a fine Chris, it would win some weeks!!
James Ross planned on coming in from Pluit but couldn’t find his clubs under the 2m of water in his garage so had to beg off for the day.
The only downer on the day apart from the slow start was the Rp50K charged for a can of Bintang. We will remind players next time to BYO.

TRIAL RUN FOR MONTHLY MEDAL
We will be playing our home course of Matoa Sunday next and would like to conduct a trial run to iron out the wrinkles on the Stableford scoring and other logistics before the Monthly Medal starts for real.
NEW MEMBERS: None that we can recall
WELCOME BACK: 12 welcome backs and 13 regulars
Cheers, Geoff

PS: Once again please send me an SMS if you intend to play next week – BUT it NOT the end of the world if you make a last minute decision to play or NOT play!!
PPS You can also go to “Yes, I’m Playing” on the menu and fill in the very, very simple form while you are here. Gotta be quicker than a phone keyboard.
