Rancamaya, 3rd February 2013

Dear All,

A huge day’s golf last Sunday at a sun blessed Rancamaya. Some uncomfortable moments for booking/organizer Juergen Degert as the numbers swelled during the week from 10 booked flights to 68 players – and 17 flights required, a new record for a regular Tee Set Sunday in the memory of those present.

Bloody hell

Luckily the Geoff Thwaites initiated model of early booking confirmation worked like a charm and the starter well-informed of the numbers as they swelled to mini tournament proportions – and earned himself a tidy little tip by managing to organise 8 tee boxes for a mini shotgun start.

A shame the club house restaurant staff could not raise themselves to even attempt to match such good service – and the price of beer was up too 😦

The reputation of our resident Pawang Hujan, Graham McGeady, is growing from rather better than adequate to absolutely legendary. Who in their right mind would attempt an afternoon’s golf in the Bogor hills during rainy season?

Prior to tee off Graham made no promises but, nevertheless, was to deliver perfect sunny weather despite almost missing the event by failing to check his car’s serviceability before leaving home.

Traffic was non-existent going there and coming back, icing on the cake for a great day. The trip home for those taking the Big Bird bus was so quick in fact that all beers in the essky could not be consumed by arrival time at Kemang Hero. No worries, just meant that an unscheduled secondary stop was required at Star Deli to top up the alcohol levels.

Some very important welcome backs to mention, Ivan Byriel came out for a hit after having his ticker de-coked just two weeks ago but didn’t manage to corner his usual first par prize. Veteran Tee Setter Dave Tarcy was happy to be back for a flying visit although having to push Graham McGeady’s car 5km down the Jagorawi toll road was not what he was expecting.

12 new players showed up which was way too many for our results spread sheet to display correctly. Matt Rosa, Ashley Souter, Jonathan Reid, Robert Hung, Syahrudin, Hector MacKay, Dennis Kloeth, Ronald Lim, Martin Duke, Peter Collier and Christian Engstron……we welcome you all to Tee Set.

Sadly, we have to say good-bye to Rune Tufta who will return to Norway where he will be playing other (snow based) sports on Sundays. Come back soon, Rune!

Santi Miller was to be seen sporting a red face, not from too much sun, but rather from making a rather rash promise in the heat of the game. From 170 yards out, in light rough, on a slope and under a tree, she foolishly made the offer to playing partner James Ross to “ kiss your bum if I make the green”, only to put it to within 4ft of the pin. What happened next??? Uumm, ask Santi, James is too much of a gentleman to tell you.

Results

Joseph Peries shot a great even par for the day to take low gross while playing partner Dave Baglivo shot 5 under his handicap to take low nett. Just shows what a few squirts of JD before tee off can do for the swing. Harry Hill took nearest to the pin and Matt Fairey a fine longest drive.

???????????????????????????????An excellent day for  the Tee Set treasurer with a rich haul of Skirt penalties including one for Peter Boyd who managed to pair it with Monster Putter and provide us with a photo opportunity we don’t get every week. Well done, Boydie, you took it like a man!

Many thanks to Dennis Kloeth for his generosity in donating some of his golfing products for the major winners.

Next Week

Next Sunday, February 10th, we are at Kedaton with an 11:30 tee time. Green fees with cart are Rp600,000 or rather less than that if you would like to walk the course. It is VERY IMPORTANT to remember to take the extreme left toll booth when exiting at KP31 on the Merak toll as we lose one or two every time we visit Kedaton. All other lanes will not allow you to access the overpass to Kedaton. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Many thanks to Wina for getting us on this lovely course.

Don’t forget to click on “Yes, I’m Playing” so we can track numbers expected to be playing.

Tee Set has history

Yep, nearly 30 years of it, and we just love to hear about it from the “old timers” out there. This week we got an e-mail from Stan Cooke in Aberdeen telling us how he instantly became known as a Sandbagger when joining Tee Set back in 1991 – and advises us that he is much younger than Steve Jacobs 🙂

Classifieds

Classifieds as a member service is now getting going as, in addition to the opportunity to buy Santi Miller’s city runabout at an outstanding price, you now also get a chance to buy some of Chazz Hassing’s sparkling red or a solid teak shoe and purse cabinet from Tom Alcedo or maybe even treat yourself to a lifetime membership at Genung Geulis from Michael Xiao!

All the best, Ric

(yes, still standing in for Geoff Thwaites)
