Kedaton, 10th February 2013

A strong field of 35 Tee Setters arrived at West Jakarta’s Kedaton Course in bright sunshine in a new high turnout for the course – and this while our usual South Jakarta haunt was experiencing the finest thunder and lightning show seen this side of New Year – and rain to match.

Remarkably, no one was late and or to miss the toll exit lane thanks largely to the very fine and accurate directions provided in last week’s posting. VP Peter Reichlmeier, standing in for the still absent Geoff Thwaites, was heard questioning what all the fuss was about finding the course!! (Peter has his own driver of 20 years of course)

The Kedaton course was in great nick, however, some long and narrow holes with water running the complete length of the fairway on most holes makes for a greater premium on driving accuracy than is your average Tee Setter’s preference it has to be said, though the submitted score cards were not to reflect this elevated degree of difficulty.

Around the 14th hole, however, the weather really closed in with some significant thunder and lightning displays, making conditions dark, windy and even a little chilly. Our by now legendary Pawang HujanGraham McGeady, dreamt of having another virgin or whatever it is that he does – and the sky cleared within minutes and, while most flights got a little “basah”, all finished without to much fuss or bother.

With 3 holes to play a couple of flights converged on a par 3 tee box; Neil Mullins, when asked how was his game going replied “the Bintangs are going down well but the golf is pretty much up and down” – humble stuff from a bloke who had just shot Tee Set’s first EAGLE for 2013.

The ever mild-mannered, reserved and patient Richard Newcombe was witnessed giving his pitching wedge the float test on the 7th hole, though he was later to claim that “it slipped out of my hand on a practice swing” yeah right, Richard!!  For the small fee of just Rp.100,000, the club was safely retrieved ready for more abuse on the next hole. Great work by his caddie to take on the crocs for such a small bonus.

Mel Cantarella was happy to be drawn with Vice President Peter Reichlmeier who Mel alleges is good luck as his skirt buffer/deterent. Not this time my friend, so get your Rp.50,000 out! And don’t forget the monster putter fine!?

The Tee set Interleague talent spotters were out looking for this year’s team; captain Reichlmeier said form is looking encouraging enough to get away from the wooden spoon position this year. But then again Tee Set sides have always looked good on paper.

Some pretty consistent golf played by some players, mostly notably Joseph Peries who shot a 1 under 71 off the stick while playing partner David Baglivo took low net for the second week in a row with a 69. We wonder if the JD again had something to do with these sterling efforts.

While perhaps not the most difficult driving course on the Tee Set circuit, Kedaton was to harvest a very rich crop of skirt fines and make our treasurer a very happy man.

A rich haulThe eagle-eyed amongst you will perhaps have noticed Evaldo Roos at the front of that bunch of cross dressers; if we are not mistaken it is his fourth of the year – and just offsetting his two wins on long drive – leaving him even for the year. If he keeps up that form we may have to award him the wig on a permanent basis.

Impossible  to move on without pointing out what the immediate past President was to describe as Mel Cantatella’s full house in picking up most improved, monster putter, most stokes on a hole and topping it all off with a skirt. Outstanding.

Pleased to report that we have had a great early take up so far for this season’s Tee Set Match Play Championship with more than 30 of you already signed up. Still another 10 days or so to go before we close the list so, if you haven’t already – and fancy the special fun that is Match Play – then add your name on the form to be found here.

Finally, next Sunday sees the opening Interleague event of the year at the very special Jagorawi New Course, kicking off at 09:30, the Two Man Scramble, when we will be entering as many teams as we have people to fill them. As usual, please let us know of your intention to play by filling in the “Yes. I’m playing” form.

Cheers, Peter R
