In truth, Tee Set has had a most remarkable run this rainy season with, until today, not a single round lost to the rain and few enough rain delays. At least in part we should be grateful to our Pawang Hujan, Graham McGeady, for his sterling efforts; the mutterings about getting a new Pawang Hujan heard after today’s round are surely premature, especially as he was having to project his influence from over three thousand miles away in India.
Great turnout for the attractive Palm Hill course, undoubtedly the highest ever at 45 Tee Setters, however of those who started just 12 lucky and determined golfers managed to finish a very rain delayed round as darkness began to fall some six and a half hours after teeing off. Some confusion over whether tee off was 11:30 or 12:00 but the Starter made us all happy by getting us away at 11:15 thanks to a great job by VP Peter Reichelmeier putting flights together for those 45 players in just 10 minutes!!
Another plus was that the green fees etc were 508,000 roops rather than the 588,000 advertised, a saving of more than two much needed beers at Palm Hill’s attractive tariff rates 🙂
A warm welcome back to Steve Harper after 4 years away from Jakarta while Tim Davis was also a notable returnee and indeed Marshall Jones after being laid up for a while. All in all there were 19 welcome back players, so too many to mention all, however, a big Tee Set welcome to Charles Kidd and Dan Boyd on their first rounds with us; we hope they will not be discouraged by the rain – it’s not often like that, guys!!
In fact everybody managed to get in at least 9 holes in glorious sunshine before the heavens opened up when, with the greens flooded, it looked like it was all over for the day – but with the availability of cheap beer and plenty of eye candy in the club house, the 12 diehards sat out the storm. Rather inevitably the beer took its toll on the standard of golf but nevertheless, for those who did, it was well worth the wait just to get back out there and enjoy the sunset and accompanying scenery. With Mount Salak as the backdrop, the course was truly majestic in its beauty late on.
Despite the rain restricted level of activity, your committee managed to award most of the prizes, though rather later than is the norm. Particular noteworthy was a 96 by Johannes Pesch allowing him to take low net with 72, while Paul Evison must consider himself rather unlucky to have won Monster Putter with a regulation 36 putts, though can take some consolation in the hour being so late that there is no photographic evidence of him pictured with the dreaded monkey!!
Detailed results, looking really rather bare due to the 33 incomplete rounds can be seen by clicking on the graphic you see to the right. Plenty of skirts to report and most were paid up. Norman Bunter, Paul Evison, Calvin Arneson, Ed Tarog, Shane Rowles and Marshall Jones. After coming up dry two weeks in a row, a smile finally returned to our treasurer’s recently troubled visage.
So, well done to those who saw it through to the less than bitter end – and commiserations to the rest of us, not least your webmaster who came rather inadequately equipped with neither umbrella nor rain jacket and resembled nothing so much as a drowned rat by the time he gave up in despair at the 13th after having suffered a second complete head to foot soaking – “it was the sound of squelching in my golf shoes as I walked that finally convinced me to come off” he told us.
Finally, next Sunday’s round will be at the much improved Pondok Cabe course when green fees etc will be a bargain 400,000 roops including cart – or 325,000 walking with an 11:30 first tee time from tee boxes 1 and 10. And it will NOT rain on our parade; or we really will be looking for a new Pawang Hujan! Sign up for Pondok Cabe when you are ready to commit.
