The Day
While a little further than most of our courses, Karawang being way out on the Cikampek Tol, even a very full charabanc from Kemang made it to the course in around an hour in reasonable Jalan Tol morning traffic .
Our good fortune continued with the starter getting the first groups off 20 minutes early onto a course in outstanding condition though with the greens a little on the slow side.
Weather was fine throughout with never a threat of rain which perhaps explains our Pawang Hujan’s reluctance to have his photo taken as the prizes were being handed out.
The quality of food at Karawang’s “temporary” club house has always been good and we were not to be let down today, with the Soto Ayam on offer getting your web master’s much coveted “5 cocks” rating.
While we dub the clubhouse “temporary” it seems to have been there for years, caused by the usual funds running out problem of course, however, they are now on the last lap and today was probably the last Tee Set will see of the old structure. The new one, at least from the outside looks very high-class, so that is something to look forward to so long as they don’t put the fees up:-(
In an interesting development, Harold Hayne has requested to be allowed to play off the white tees, which doesn’t seem unreasonable and we suspect that there will be others of “more mature years” who would appreciate that dispensation, not least on such long courses as Karawang where it becomes rather tiresome having to shoot into the green with a 3 wood on every par 4 and 5. Watch this space, we expect someone will wake the committee up looking for a decision.
Two new players today, Rod Ritson and Tim Schreider, a big Tee Set welcome to both, we hope you both enjoy your Sundays with us many times in future!
By all accounts, the trip back to Jakarta on the Blue Bird Big Bird bus was an absolute cracker, thanks not least to John Suermondt’s bottle of duty-free Double Black JW and his seemingly unending supply of great stories.
Finally, many thanks to Ramah who did a faultless first time job at being stand in secretary for Tuti who was “otherwise engaged”.
Play
Sam Westen is playing some fine stuff even though this is early days for him with Tee Set – and with almost every course being new to him. He shot 78 off the stick today to take low net on a course he had never heard about before never mind played. Skipper Wymer’s first pick for Interleague next Sunday one imagines.
That another fine young player, Nicky Moir, is finally learning to keep the ball on the fairway most of the time, is becoming very apparent and he took low nett with a 67.
A reasonable size crop of five skirts to keep the Treasurer happy at 50,000 roops a pop though, in truth, it should have been more on a course where the influence of the Ladies Committee on the location of the red tee boxes is as strong or stronger than on any course in Jakarta!
Greens that were very true if a tad slow didn’t stop Mike Webb and Blair Chalmers also contributing to the Treasurer’s bulging coffers.
With the late arrival of Ric, and the lack of initiative of the rest of us as we enjoyed ourselves chewing the fat with our mates and downed our beers, coffees and Soto Ayams, the Long Drive and Closest to the Pin comps didn’t happen but here are all the results otherwise.

Tee Set Match Play
David Baglivo beat Oddy in a close one by 2 and 1 to maintain his bid to retain the Mach Play crown he took last year.
30th Anniversary
They say that it’s a lady’s prerogative to change her mind – well, it appears that the same applies to committees too as yours has decided that the Tee Set 30th anniversary event will be combined with the August Monthly Medal on the 25th August at Matoa. There will be extra fun stuff, a post-play dinner while the scores are being sorted out – and some amazing frozen Margaritas and door prizes etc. Promises to be a great day.
We are having special Tee Set 30th Anniversary golf shirts made up for the event and, whether you plan on going to the event or not, you can order shirt off the site in the near future.
The shirts are of high quality, come in European sizes and cost will be around 250,000 roops – see here for (very detailed) dimensions. Fill in the order form to secure what will surely become a collectors item – and likely to go for at least 10 times as much on eBay next year.
Next Week
The Tee Set Interleague team will be attempting to continue their run of much improved form this season on Sunday at Jagorawi. A 12:30 start with green fees etc at 900,00 roops including shared cart.
The rest of us will be at the delightful, and just a little quirky, Permata Sentul course where we hope to improve upon the advertised 12:30 start (so get there in good time!) after paying green fees of 650,000 roops all up including shared cart.
As ever, let us know if you intend to play by filling in the usual form here.
See yah Sunday!! … Tee Set
