IMPORTANT NOTICE we have cancelled the planned 12:30 start at Sentul Highlands next Sunday and are instead taking an 11:00 start at Pangkalan Jati. See below for details.
Today
As usual on Interleague day, we marched the cream of Tee Set talent off to Jags to do battle, this time with the Cloggies, the current Interleague leaders, while this time the rest of us had a leisurely afternoon’s golf at the lovely but tight Permata Sentul track further down the Jagorawi Tol.
Jagorawi
Rather beautiful weather at Sentul so we were surprised to hear that Interleague was rained off three holes short of completing the round. Despite this the result was a 6 – 4 win to Tee Set after emphatic wins by Sam Westen (6 – 5) in singles and Mike Garwood/Peter Reichlmeier (7 – 6) in doubles. Tim Davies in singles and Mel Meeds /Nicky Moir in doubles had one up leads going into the last holes but the weather stopped them executing the coupe de grace.
A fine result to rein in the team that was running away with the 2013 competition.
Finally worth mentioning that Sam was an unbelievable 3 UNDER par when he was forced to finish his round after the 15th and that Tee Set picked up the following skills prizes:
Mike Garwood Nearest the pin A-Grade
Sam Westen Longest drive A-Grade
Mel Meeds Longest drive B-Grade.
Permata Sentul
The alternative event at Permata Sentul attracted 28 players to take on this charming but often treacherous track. If you prefer flat courses with wide open fairways then this course may just be your nightmare in waiting.
The very competitive rate of Rp650K at Sentul was down to the tough negotiating skills of Wina. Tee off was 30 minutes in advance of the booking so it was all going our way. Rahma standing in for an absent Tuti did a fine job again as secretary and managed to keep smiling despite the barrage of questions leveled at her like, “are we getting away early, what tee box am I off, why can’t I play off the whites, what’s my group, why is the price different…blah blah blah”?
Wonderful to welcome back veteran Tee Setters Amidah and Chipper Barwick, visiting Jakarta from their home base in Houston. True to form a smiling Amidah also managed to take home some winnings (see photo).
Graham McGeady gave the greens a big rap so no points for guessing who won low putts. At the other end of the scale, Michael Seabrook had major problems finding the hole, taking 44 putts and the monkey.
Simon Reynolds hit a sparkling 84 off the stick to take low net while Ed Paraan caught the handicapper’s attention by shooting 3 under his handicap to take low net – and this despite not getting past the ladies tees on at least one drive.
Ed was in fine company with his misdemeanor and was joined by John Suermondt, Ric Wymer and Raymond Leong in a bit of cross dressing after the game.
Full prize awards at Permata Sentul were as follows:

Tee Set 30th Anniversary
The committee have finally settled on Matoa on Sunday the 1st September as the setting for our official 30th Anniversary celebrations. Still a ways off but some things still need to happen now, not least your ordering the 30th Anniversary special edition shirt. Orders will be taken until the middle of next week – but why not get it out of the way by ordering here and now?
Bill Lloyd and Harold Hayne – we already have your orders, thank you!
Committee Positions
After some 7 hectic months at the helm of Tee Set, Geoff Thwaites has called it a day for personal reasons. Geoff has been something of a fireball during his tenure and has encouraged and seen in many changes including the Monthly Medal and the planning of fixtures further ahead than the following Sunday – and the redevelopment of the web site into its current form. And during his time average Tee Set attendance has risen by some 35%!
Many thanks Geoff for your sterling efforts, they have been tremendously appreciated by all.
Current VP, Ric Wymer, has agreed to step into the breech and become acting President with immediate effect, and until such time as the committee decides on a longer term solution.
Ric is a busy man of course and has taken on the position so long as the rest of the committee also step up to the plate by sharing the workload, something they have all happily agreed to do, with Mike Garwood immediately putting his hand up for the BBQ you will read about below.
Classifieds
Lots of new classifieds this week with opportunities to acquire old books. old putters and an old and well maintained Kijang – together with, not least perhaps, a chance to get rid of the kids for a few days during the summer break – check ’em out here.
Next Week
We did tell you last week that the committee could change its mind from time to time and this week we have a further example, though we like to characterise it as a very fine example of our ability to cope with change 🙂
Given the ferocious traffic either side of Cimanggis going home from Permata Sentul, the decision now looks even wiser.
Cameron Fisher has been a stalwart Tee Setter for nearly three years and wife Marni an occasional but always welcome addition too, but their time is now up – and their last round with Tee Set before return to home in Canada will be next Sunday. We are overdue a Tee Set BBQ so we plan on killing two birds with one stone and make sure Cam and Marni get a proper send off. Don and Jackie Craig, and Johannes Pesch also have their departure planned – and we will take the opportunity to raise a glass of that which cheers to them also.
If you intend joining the fun at the BBQ then complete the special box for this that you will see in this week’s “Yes, I’m playing”!!” form so that we can get the catering at least approximately right.
To make sure we can start the BBQ at a reasonable time therefore we have cancelled the planned 12:30 start at Sentul Highlands next Sunday and are instead taking an 11:00 start at Pangkalan Jati where green fees etc including shared cart will be 400,000 or 325,000 if you would like a walk. Doubtless the Tee Set schedule will be updated to reflect this turn of events in the nearish future.
The BYO BBQ will be held at Mike Garwood’s place off Fatmawati on Jalan Teledan #8 and start just as soon as we can get there from PJ. All Tee Setters invited of course. We will provide more granularity on where to find Mike’s place if he ever gets round to sharing it with us 🙂
See you next Sunday, shaping up to be a hell of a day!! … cheers, Tee Set
