The Day
JABABEKA, out on Jakarta’s eastern flatlands, attracted 33 Tee Setters by being a very decent course with excellent facilities, reasonable F&B pricing and, by and large, cute and knowledgeable caddies.
Regrettably, however, we get shafted every time we go there by a Starter looking to optimise his income stream. Today was to be no exception with a “promise” to start from tee boxes 1 and 10 melting in the hot sun of the best weather of the year so far, and this together with bunching of anywhere between 3 and 5 groups at some of the par threes, a 5 hour plus round was to be the order of the day – on top of the last groups having to wait an hour or more for their tee time to roll around.
Really all rather depressing and we will not be back in a hurry – to say the least of it.
All that said however, traffic each way was relatively light, the weather had everyone in a good mood and the course is relatively “Tee Set Friendly” – while the rather unique toko at the side of the 14th (?) allowed stocking up with beers, fruit and veg, golf balls, golf gloves and heaven knows what else, and all at very reasonable prices. Not that one or two carts needed much in the way of stocking up, resembling from the start something more akin to the Kemang Duty Free Shop than anything else!
The President of Everything had husbandly responsibilities of a medical nature to perform but still showed up to sort out the flights; well done him.
Also on the bright side, we got no reports of people missing the Tol exit or the bleached bones of Orang Boule being found at the side of the Cikampek Tol. Clearly our repeated warnings got home.
Finally, a very healthy six Newcomers to report, Stephen Flint, Nathan Belete, Jason, Neale Turner, Craig Ewers and Chris Jones; a warm Tee Set welcome to them all, enjoy your play with Tee Set guys and, if you haven’t already done so, then do remember to complete your details here.
The Play
With Sam Westen having a rather poor afternoon by his own standards with “only” an 83,, an ebullient Joseph Peries was to take Low Gross by a large margin with a 3 over par 75, while Cucu Chandra once again wielded the large blunt instrument that is her handicap to great effect to once again take Low Gross with 68.
Santi Miller’s putter was hot with just 25 blows from the blade needed as she took Low Putts by a clear 4 strokes (a 2-0 with a chip in from off the green on a par 3 helped!), while Tim Davies rather fortuitously took the 1st Birdie money with Santi and Joseph having taken other prizes. We like to spread the prize money about of course.
Splendid day for the Treasurer with a rich crop of 8 Skirts, a bountiful 3 players sharing Most Strokes and we even had 2 sharing Monster Putter!! A reminder to please make sure that you pay your fines to Tuti if you have to leave early, we know where you live!!
