Matoa Monthly Medal, 29th September

The Day

A dearth of rain over the last couple of months had all of browned, hardened and roughed up the Matoa fairways to such an extent that even a mishit could go 150 yards – and “preferred lies” were to be declared the order of the day. This was not so good for our usual haul of Skirts.

starting chaos

Registration was indeed even more of a zoo than usual

Claiming to be too busy to arrange Nearest the Pin or Longest Drive or even delegate the task, the President of Everything rather generously decided to double all the other prizes – inducing groans from the man charged with looking after the budget for the Tee Set Championship coming up in November – and smiles on the faces of all the day’s winners of course.

Cunningly the President did redeem himself, however, by waiting for most of the winners to pulang before giving out the awards.

New secretary Brenda did a stellar job of getting all 37 players scores input correctly and even managed to smile through the shock of a table rocking slam dunk score card mid-way through the process.

A warm Tee Set welcome to Sherrie Wolff and Mark Bekkering, both playing Tee Set for the first time today – come back regularly both!!

Welcome back to Chris Smith, Brad Sincock, Tom Alcedo, Chazz Hassig, Steve Flint, Mike Spencer, Anna Wilson, Tetty Donelly and Rina Zoet – many of whom we haven’t seen for a considerable time. Good to see you all!

The Play

Prizes

Mel celebratesSome outstanding scores on this Tee Set friendly course and none better then this month’s medal winner, Mel Meeds, who accrued an amazing 42 Stableford points. Well done, Mel!!

Graham McGeady scored 5 points on hole # 9 with that rare bird, an eagle, while Sam Westen blitzed the course with a gross 75 with a low 25 putts. Shows we have some true talent in the group, and not just with a microphone in our hands!

jess kindlerAs we mentioned earlier, just one skirt, though one from Jess Kindler is better then none at all and, with Evaldo Roos in the field, disappointing not to snare him yet again – we can only guess that his playing partner, daughter Naomi, had told him enough is enough and to “lay off wearing that silly skirt and wig, Dad!”.

The day was topped off for some with a few beers in the Star Deli on the way home and David Shenman, with the leash off for the weekend, stayed on and gave us all a lesson in how to play pool.

Fuller, player by player results can be found here.

Just space for one more picture if you can cope with it, that of a very happy Mel Meeds wearing his newly acquired medal 🙂

Next Up

Sunday next see us at the Karawang International course out on the Cikampek Tol and, last time we were there in early June, 35 Tee Setters enjoyed a fine day on a delightful course, not least Sam Westen who shot 78 on his first look at the course to take Low Net.

Karawang’s new, and long awaited, clubhouse was on the cusp of opening when we were there and it certainly looked top class from the outside – it will be interesting to take check it out from the inside this time!

Tee off will be at 11:30 as usual at Karawang where Green Fees etc including cart were a very reasonable 550,000 roops in June – we will confirm cost this time  in the next update.

Obviously Steve Wood has not checked the player result sheet. I think he would have a heart attack if he realized he is down for 109 instead of 89. 😦
