Rancamaya, Sunday 20th October

starting offOn the cusp of the rainy season, we were taking something of a chance in booking the lovely Rancamaya course, however, this was a gamble to be richly rewarded as we got a course in tip-top condition in what turned out to be lovely weather conditions; even 5 minutes of light rain around  the turn was to play to our advantage as we continued without break in temperatures that suddenly dropped a lovely 5 degrees!

Jagorawi TolTraffic to the course in the morning was pretty light though was something of a trial in the evening as we joined the Puncak return traffic. You may very well have noticed the Jagorawi Tol traffic going from bad to worse despite the Jakarta end being widened to 4 lanes each way, and will be something less than surprised at the statistics to the left – and 2012 and 2013 will undoubtedly show over half a million vehicles a day 😦

A lower than average Tee Set turnout affected of course by the mass migration to the charms of Bali for the weekend’s “Bali Classic”, so 39 Tee Setters turning up was a suitable tribute to the pulling power of a wonderful course.

In one of the highlights of a great day, Santi Miller, playing comfortable bogey golf as she approached the 9th green as played, found herself in a tough greenside bunker. Five shots later she was finally able to to leave one on the fringe before finishing with a 10. We know that two shots in a bunker is known as a “Hitler” but 5 shots? .. suggestions on a post card please.

For some the day was not to finish until well after 7pm as the party went on – congratulations to Shane Rawles are in order for his totally ignoring Bill Lloyd putting a particularly large, ugly and angry from down the back of Shane’s shirt 🙂

Just two Newcomers this week after the multitude last Sunday – so a warm Tee Set welcome to both Andrew Pearce and Javier Serrano.

The Play

Prizes

Peter BushThe excellent Rancamaya starting machine got us away ahead of time in perfect sunny conditions – and with as pretty and as competent a bunch of caddies as you will find on a long day’s march.

A fine 81 off the stick from Graham McGeady took Low Net while James Ross came back to some form with a Low Net 70 – well done to both of them.

On greens fast and true, Norman Bunter took just 26 blows with the flattest club in his bag while David Shenman had an off day in taking Monster Putter to cover the same ground.

Peter Bush was happy to take Most Improved with 7 shots better back nine which was shared with Harold Hayne though we failed to give Harold his just rewards on the day.

A rich haul of five Skirts will have delighted the President of Everything, missing in Bali; though he failed to deliver the skirt for use; much to the delight of all would be skirt wearers once again this week. Normal cross dressing practices for offenders will be resumed next week.

Tee Set Championship

65 regular Tee Setter have secured their place in the Championship on the 24th November by registering their intent to play. Anyone else can now secure their own place to play by registering here – up to a maximum of 96 players after which we will “wait-list”.

Midweek Tee Set

After a one week break for its half term beach holiday, a few Tee Setters will resume their ongoing battle with Pondok Cabe Golf Course tomorrow morning, Tuesday 22nd. No booking, no Tee Set fees, no prizes, just turn up before 9am and play. Green fees of just 155,000 roops for this much improved course

Next Week

Yep, the months roll around and it back to Matoa once again next Sunday for the meat and the Monthly Medal. It is to be hoped that the recent rains will have brought about an improvement in the course from the bone hard and rutted state of last month when even a mishit drive could go 150 metres; much to the detriment of the skirt count!

Tee off from 1 and 10 at 11:30 with green fees etc of 540,000 roops walking or 610,000 with a shared cart. Once again we will try to get early arrivers away early, so don’t be late – and please register here to help us get the administration in shape for a busy day

See yah at Matoa! …… Tee Set
