The Day
Yes, Tee Set is starting them off younger and younger in its search for the next Tiger Woods, and above is our newest young recruit, and we don’t mean Geoff Thwaites, we mean Steve Wood’s little lad Zach of course, pictured above taking the risk of being dropped by Uncle Geoff, though with Dad keeping a close eye on things from an HSE point of view 🙂
At a Matoa that has clearly benefited from the recent light rains, we were to have a more acceptable track than that rock hard and rutted affair with which we were presented last month. On the day, however, the weather was sublime and rain-free, though it is clearly time for Graham McGeady to dust off his Pawang Hujan skill set and get it back into action on our behalf.
Particularly pleasing to see so many stay for the Medal prize giving this week and it was all a lot of fun – even though the President of Everything was at half normal volume due to a condition whose nature and cause he was reluctant to discuss in any detail at all.
Another bumper day for Newcomers this week so a warm Tee Set welcome to all of Aljosja van Dorssen, Daan Zoet, Josiana Derguini, Tim Parson and Villy Parson. Come back soon.
The Play

The excellent weather was clearly conducive to good scoring as Peter Bush and Matt Fairey shared the day’s honours with each earning the attention of the handicap committee with a remarkable 43 Stableford points apiece to become joint October Medal Winners. Well done both, and apologies to Matt for the Official Tee Set Photographer‘s failure to record your award; she has been warned as to her future performance.
A word of consolation for Harold Hayne who has been regularly improving of late, and whose 40 Stableford points could have won him the prize on another day.
27 blows with the putter is generally good enough to win Low Putts and today was to be no exception – though as many as three Tee Setters achieving it was something of a first.
Fernando “El Guapo” Gaggino wasted no time in securing First Birdie, walking off the first green with the money already safely in the bag.
Matt Fairey chose a good day to play out of his skin as he was double-hatting in a Tee Set Matchplay against a Cucu Chandra who was to be blown away 6 and 5 by Matt’s alarming net 64.
The medal is not a day when Tee Set rewards Low Net, however, our normally tight-fisted Treasurer was so impressed by Sam Westen’s 73 off the stick that he broke the rules of an entire lifetime of frugality and awarded Sam the 100,000 roops anyway. Nice one, Sam.
Another notable happening was that rare bird, the Eagle, recorded on the par 5 7th by Mel Meeds. With lots of roll on the fairways, the par fives were reachable in two by the big hitters – but only Mel dropped that vital single putt.
On the money coming in side there were just two Tee Setters failing to reach the ladies tee on the day, Mike Webb and Shane Rawles, though Shane was hors de combat and on his way home by the time the cross dressing started – while Mike suggested that the skirt should be like the European Cup and become the property of 5 time winners!
Fuller, player by player results can be found here while more photos of the day in higher resolution and size can be found here.
Tee Set Championship
86 Tee Setters have now secured their place in the Championship on the 24th November by registering their intent to play – and the remaining 10 places are now thrown open to all at 950,000 including 2013 Championship shirt. Registration here.
Midweek Tee Set
The Tee Set Mid-weekers took a break from their usual Tuesday morning Pondok Cabe venue with 9 of them choosing to play Senayan on Monday instead, attracted not least by the excellent offer of green fees of just 350,000 walking – though another 300,000 if you wanted to share a buggy – almost everyone walked!
Millions of dollars have been spent on a fabulous new clubhouse and course remodeling including re-covering the entire course with a top class turf which was a dream to play on. Rather an eclectic course layout and the signature depressingly polluted river running through it remain, however, this is a course well worth playing – as is luxuriating in the clubhouse facilities afterwards!
A decision was made to come back once a month or so in future, but next week it is back to good old Pondok Cabe; probably on Wednesday as Tuesday is the Melbourne Gold Cup in the Satu Lagi bar at the Kristal Hotel starting at 9am. Just turn up for the latter, where parting with 100,000 roops gets you a splendid breakfast and the boisterous company of some very noisy Aussies, many of them Tee Setters. And all proceeds to charity.
Next Week
It’s been a while since we have taken on the splendid Palm Hill, not since 5th May earlier this year in fact, and this really is too long away from a fine and Tee Set friendly course with most charming caddies. Green Fees including shared cart at 508,000 roops are also something of a bargain for a course of undoubted quality.
Start time of a rather late 1pm means that you can have a welcome lie-in and leisurely breakfast for once on a Sunday morning – with even Sam being unable to oversleep for this one.
If you register at “Yes, I’m playing!!” as usual, then we promise you a shotgun start and a fine day on a fine course and a President of Everything restored to full volume.
See yah at Palm Hill! …… Tee Set
