Ready for the frayThe Day

Fully fifty Tee Setters turned up at Senayan National on a day of delightful weather blessedly free of rain and with the course in pretty much prime condition.

Great course to get to for most of us as well, and today all were pleasantly surprised not to get caught up in any of the promised political rally traffic around Senayan, we guess Indonesians take holidays seriously.

Once again we were given our own meeting room to play in due to Honda flogging cars in the main area. This makes everything a little more intimate and friendly so let’s hope they have sales conventions there on the last Sunday of every month. If they had increased  the number of servers to meet the significant needs of those 50 hungry and thirsty Tee Setters then that would have made it just about perfect.

Significant last minute shuffling of the groupings is to be expected on such a busy day and this time John Suermondt found himself being bumped from the second group to the last. Hardly a word of complaint from John and he went on to be rewarded for his forbearance as you will read later. Next time we will try for a mini shotgun start from more then two tee boxes.

Despite the last groups going out an hour or more after the first, there were plenty of people still around for prize giving as there were so many prizes on offer this week while Brenda has got the results recording down to a fine art – and an increasingly short lived one at that.

Tee Setters by country of originFour Newcomers  to welcome this week in Erik Milfors, Karen Khetean (KK), Peter Riddell Carre and Tokujiro Kamigatakuchi (Jiro); have fun with Tee Set guys!

Jiro is our first ever player from Japan which becomes  the 29th country to take part in Tee Set since 1-1-2012 – something which made us think about the table to the left where you will also see that Australia is number one, in terms of sheer numbers of players anyway!

A enormous list of Welcome Backs, doubtless attracted in part at least by the course – and headed by Richard Mau who has not darkened our door step since December 2012 for a total of 67 weeks. Richard kindly added yet another prize, a free night’s stay at the very nice JS Luwansa hotel in Rasuna Said

Other Welcome Backers of of note were Mark Fiorello at 28 weeks (away so long he had to ask who the current president was) and at 19 weeks were Steve Wood, Anthony King and Cate McCosker with the last round for the three of them being the 2013 Tee Set Championship.

The Play

A temporary (we hope) database glitch means that we can’t give you the full results at this time, however, here are the headlines:

Results

Shane RawlesStar performance from Shane Rawles to win the V Door Monthly Medal for highest number of Stableford Points, though on a count-back from the unlucky Immediate Past President of Everything who took the Slaney’s Meats voucher for 500,000 while Mark Johnson hit an impressive 4 under his handicap to take Low Net.

In a development that will surprise exactly nobody, Sam Westen took Low Gross with a 74 off the stick while Keith Miller won Low Putts with 28, something he attributed to “hardly being able to hit a green in regulation today“. He also took the the full-on Aussie breakfast at Ceceili’s cafe prize for his troubles.

Bruce Hector took some consolation for losing his Matchplay with closest to the pin and the JS Luwansa hotel voucher.

Welcome Back Mark Fiorello didn’t take long to get into the swing of things again with a birdie on the 2nd to take 1st Birdie while Craig Ewers didn’t even that long in securing 1st Sandy.

KKA relatively modest haul of just seven skirts on a course that yielded a new record of 12 of the things last time out; who said Tee Setters can’t learn?!?!?

Newcomer KK quickly found the hard side of Tee Set life having to cough up 50,00 for his 46 putts and Monster Putter on the day.

All in all, another great Monthly Medal Day at Senayan, we fear the committee may have stumbled into another great decision.

2014 Matchplay

Four more results from Senayan today

–          Anthony King beat Koen Verheyen 7 and 6

–          Mel Meeds beat Neil Mullins 5 and 3

–          Sam Westen beat Bruce Hector in a putt off

–          John Suermondt beat Wina Nugraha 5 and 4

Anthony and John

Well at least Anthony was colour coordinated!

Great performance by Bruce to take Sombrero Sam to the putting green.

In past years Wina has been one of the most competitive players in match play but this year she has  the dubious honour of being the first to exit the competition after being beaten convincingly by a rampaging John Suermondt.

The  full current Matchplay situation can be found here.

Unfortunately, the remaining unplayed matches are cancelled.

Next Up

header_wesite_rainbow_hills_golf_chWith Rainbow Hills after Senayan and Senayan after Sentul Highlands; we have probably never had it so good. A stunning mountain course with excellent facilities, Rainbow will undoubtedly prove a hit with the many Tee Setters who have yet to play the course while the battle hardened will be fully aware of the delights ahead of them.

Like Sentul Highlands last week, Rainbow has been off the Tee Set Calendar for some years as the scissors of its price aspirations met the rock of Tee Set frugality. Happily a little tough negotiating by our tough little negotiator was to finally wear them down and 750,000 including shared cart is in our price range, though they were unwilling to give us better than a 12.30 Tee off – but did indicate a willingness to advance on this if their tournament finishes earlier, which it should. Message? – get there in good time.

Finding Rainbow is not so difficult, just take the main Sentul City exit off the Jagorawi Tol and follow the signs. If you look it up on Google Maps you will find that they have managed to move the course quite a few kilometres north to Permata Sentul – so use “Padang Golf Bukit Tinngi” to do your searching instead

Register here as usual if you intend playing Rainbow on what should be a great day on a great course.

See yah Sunday! …. Tee Set
