Skirts

The Day

The Jakarta roads over Easter were as deserted as could be imagined, with most of the residents of the big Durian having disappeared in the Friday exodus to the popular holiday destinations of Puncak, Bandung and Anyar.

For those remaining in town, quicker then usual transit times from home to course were the order of the day though, for those taking taxis at least, the X factor as usual was whether the driver knew the way. Going through the Fatmawati market was a breeze for those taking that route – and reward for a very brave decision given its infamous record.

Our 20 starters at PJ all had stories to tell about their trips to the course but the end result was a tee time 30 minutes before our allotted time; a development that earned the PJ Starter a big enough tip to pay for his cigarettes for the next month.

Five flights were a great turn out for a Bandung Bash weekend, so many thanks to Ivan Byriel for taking over the organising responsibilities in the absence of our President of Some Things and Secretary Brenda who were both out of town enjoying themselves.

In fact organising 20 rather agreeable golfers was never going to be too much of a challenge for Ivan considering his day time job is running truculent land seismic crews in the deepest, darkest jungles of Indonesia.

Newcomer Hugo

Welcome back Bob

play more golf, Bob!!

Welcome to our sole newcomer this week, Hugo Doelman, who managed to get around the course despite a sprained ankle from playing hockey the day before.

Hugo is new to Indonesia and from the Netherlands but we suspect he had Welcome Back player Jason Van de Linde to discuss how gezellig Tee Set is.

Welcome Backs were a lot busier at 11 players, or more than half the pack, and headed by Bob Fleischmann who played his first round with us since the 2013 Tee Set Championship back in November, while Su and Marshall Jones had their first run out of 2014. Bob made a bit of meal of it by recording his worse score in memory.

The only way back to form is to play more golf with Tee Set, Bob 🙂

The Play

Prizes

SofreeNeil Mullins finally hit some form to take Low Gross with 84 while Sofree Abdul played his regular steady golf topped off with a birdie on the 18th to secure Low Net with a fine 69.

Matt Fairey tied with Sofree for Low Putts with 26 to take the money while 1st Birdie went to Jiro, first Sandy Par to Ric and Most Improved to KK with 13 strokes. Marshall Jones rounded off the prizes with his 1st Par for a 30+ handicapper.

Deep throatOur Monkey Monster has been subjected to many indignities over his lifetime but experienced an unwelcome first today as Mike Harling celebrated winning Most Putts with the Monkey Monster’s longest and deepest ever French kiss!!

An astonishing 35% of the Tee Setters playing contributed to making Ric, with his Treasurer’s hat on, a very happy man by failing to reach the Ladies Tee and getting a Skirt this week as you will have seen above. Perhaps the most notable catch was Matt Fairey who had failed to cross-dress since 16th September 2012!

More detailed player by player results here.

2014 Tee Set Matchplay

Craig Binks was pushed to the brink by Nuri Puzey with their match going right to the last hole before Craig finally secured his place in Bracket Emas. And it goes without saying that Nuri Puzey against Matt Fairey in Bracket Kuningan should be an interesting tussle!

Next up

With 45 already registered for Sunday’s  V-Door Monthly Medal at Senayan National, you are strongly encouraged to get your name down now just in case we need to apply the “first come first served” principle.

If you have already registered then you will play – and all participants will be confirmed by e-mail on Saturday.

As you will be aware, the net proceeds of the day will be donated to the Tee Set’s favourite charitable organisation here in Jakarta, the Yayasan HOG, an outfit run by a bunch of  “charitable givers with a biking problem” and a bunch of guys and gals who do an enormous amount of great work in supporting disadvantaged kids here in Jakarta, notably through the Gentur Foundation.

The Yayasan’s biggest annual event is the famous HOGFest, to be held this year at the Maggala Wanabanti on Gatot Sabroto in Senayan on the 10th May. A fantastic evening is promised as ever and tickets will be available on Sunday from any of the many HOGS supporting the event.

Green fees of just 500,000 roops on Sunday, plus 250,00 more if you share a cart. First tee time of 11:00 from tee boxes 1 and 10 – or perhaps more tees if Wina’s current endeavours are successful.

See yah, Sunday!! … Tee Set
