An afternoon tee off rather than the normal 09:30 start at Jags today. On the upside we were given a full shotgun start at 12:45 and occupied every tee box on the Jags New course.
On the down side it was as hot and sticky as a very hot and sticky Swedish sauna, nevertheless the promise of cheap beer back at the club house after the round ensured a record 4 hour round.
Draft San Miguel at Rp25K a glass was a steal and rightly proved so as the Interleague committee got their sums wrong and should have been charging Rp30K. Haha.
The last teams to pack up and go home were Tee Set and Cloggies who also battled it out on the course with the Dutch prevailing 7 – 3
Just one Newcomer to welcome this week, Putu Kamayana and a friend of Jiro. Putu promises to be a regular member just as soon as he clears out the last of a working life. Welcome Putu and well done for not flinching in the face of Jag’s jungle to the left and OB to the right!
Some not very impressive Welcome Backs with Nathan and Hugo sharing the lead with a rather unimpressive 7 weeks apiece!
A bit of a drag taking on the traffic on the trip back to Jakarta but there is always the Star Deli to look forward to for a post trip wind down beer. Plenty to talk about post match however by 11PM we were about done and wended our weary ways home for a well earned rest.
The Play
18 players rocked up to take on the Jags New course challenge.
Geoff Thwaites took Low Net in shooting 7 shots under his handicap to take take the honours, Geoff’s best net since records began incidentally, and not bad for a cowboy as he would say himself!
A mind boggling 75 off the stick to take Low Gross for Sam Westen who also took longest drive with a whack approaching 300m.
First birdie went to Nathan Belete on hole #1 leaving nothing to chance on his last round with Tee Set before heading to Vietnam next month. Great to have you on-board during your time in Jakarta Nathan; remember to keep in touch because Vietnam is firmly on the Tee Set golf trip radar.
Tetty arrived a little late as ever but still managed to take 1st Sandy Par on her first hole as played despite the stress.
Most Improved with 11 strokes was KK and that’s no mean feat considering the back nine is a lot harder than the front at Jags. Could have been a case of the Geoff Thwaites golden rule in that the improvement on the back is directly proportional to the Bintangs consumed on the front.
Surprisingly, just one Skirt to report and that coming from Jaco Zaayman who thought he’d discovered the magic bullet on how to drive long and straight down at the driving range the other day. Back to the drawing board mate, just like the rest of us.
Fuller, player by player results are here.
Interleague
In the absence of Captain Peter Rancamaya, the Interleague stand in for the day by sheer coincidence just happened to be the Immediate Past President of Most Things who got pretty close to getting the match-ups just right.
Sam went down by one, Simon by 2 – 1, Chris and George by 2. Mel and Pieter all square, while Neil and Geoff hammered their opposition 7 – 6 with Geoff shooting 7 under his handicap with partner Neil Mullins remaining solid in support in shooting his handicap.
Losing 3 – 7 was deflating although the Cloggies didn’t get it all their own way as our lads bravely battled it out on the course with the majority of the games being settled on the 18th green with pistols at 20 paces.
Next Up
End of the month of course so we are back to Senayan again for all the fun of the Monthly Medal and the glittering array of prizes on offer there:-)
We are once again restricted to 60 pax but with the summer leave season already starting for some, we don’t expect that to be a constraint – but please make sure you register before 3pm on Friday to make the administrators life just that little bit easier.
Green fees are an unbeatable 500,000 roops for this fine centre of town course, though a cart will cost you the same again unless you can get someone to share it with you.
Tee off at 11:00 from 1 and 10 as usual so please make sure you are ready at the tee box in good time.
Finally, do not leave anything in you locker that you would be deeply upset to lose.
See ya at Senayan! … Tee Set
