The Day

SN Newcomers

Sunday 29th June was the first day of Ramadan and this worked in our favour in two ways. Firstly roads leading to Senayan in the morning were deserted and secondly the course was devoid of all its usual slow players who wisely all decided to stay at home and rest up for the first “buka puasa”.

Hossam Elwakil was our one and only fasting golfer and he coped with the hot conditions very well up until the last few holes when the wheels went a little pear shaped. Well done, him.

For those not fasting, ice cold Bintangs were available each time you passed Go at the clubhouse at the very economical rate of Rp40K.

The event was well attended as ever with 48 golfers paying their green fees at the front desk but just 46 registering with Brenda. The immediate past President of Most Things was put under the hammer to locate the missing players but still managed to get 12 full flights out and playing by 11:30.

Please remember to register with Brenda when you arrive so we can at least know the numbers/names to group up in flights.

The round itself was a super quick 4 hours which meant even more time was available for drinking ice cold beers back in the club house.

SN Simons MonkeyStrangely the fairways were quite soggy but the greens were very receptive to a high spinning ball as demonstrated by the oversized pitch marks. Greens  a little slow but were managed well by all except our 6 handicapper, Simon Reynolds, who carded 40 slaps with the flat stick to take his first ever monster putter award.

Judging by the photo Simon seems very comfortable with our monkey mascot so we may see him up again soon for this notable underachievement award.

The web master is proving his creative skills are on target and as a result the new comers continually grow each week. New players made up just shy of two full flights. Hope you all enjoyed the day. Returnees were just as large a group with Vergel Vicenzia and Ronald Lim taking the honours with their joint 24 week sabbatical.

The Play

SN Prizes

As happy a winner

As happy a winner as we have seen in some time!!

The Monthly Medal Stapleford winner on 41 points was once again decided on a count back with Karan Khetan taking the V-Door prize and Fernando Gaggino the Slaneys meat tray.

Both will make the honours roll when names are engraved on the Kojo Shield.

Two skill awards with the first for longest drive to Dan Richards with a plus 250m drive and the second was closest to the pin by Peter Bush who got it to within 25cm of the pin and amazing didn’t miss the putt.

Surprisingly Sam Westen missed the longest drive but nevertheless is never out of the awards and picked up Rp100K for low gross with an even par 69.

Jan Jelinek got the first par for a high handicapper and Norman Bunter 1st Sandy, while Ann Drader had the first birdie on hole #3 played.

Joe Alci gets confused about which end to hold again :-)Dan Richards was in the money again for a low 28 putts and as an added bonus received 6 Santi Miller frozen meat pies, something he is reportedly making particularly short work of!

Joe Alci nearly made it to the winners circle with a par on his 4th hole as played, rather remarkable given the troubles he has on deciding which end of  the putter to hold as you see in this photo.

SN Booby Prizes

SN Christians last skirtChristian Molau has been on the “moving out shortly” list for some time and today was probably his last Tee Set – and he was not miss the opportunity for a last cross-dressing session – all the best Christian, we know you will come back and visit us some time – and we will keep the skirt warm for you!

Sunday’s underachievers surprisingly came from a pedigree normally expected to excel but then again, golf is a great equalizer.

Simon Reynolds, handicap 6, carded 40 putts and took the monster putter title for the first time ever while Tom Grace and Joe Alchi found trouble lurking in bunkers, the evil smelling creek or in the bushes and took most strokes with 12.

Some nerves on the tee box resulted in 5 skirts to keep the treasurer more then happy. Some interesting names in today’s list including Fields/Howells/Johnson all in the same flight. High marks for honesty, boys!!

Fuller, player by player results here while some more photos of the fun in the sun can be found on the Tee Set Photo Gallery.

Matchplay

Anthony clearly exchanged colour co-odination notes with Brenda before the round 🙂

Just one match play decided today with a 4 and 2 win to Anthony King over Simon Reynolds.

We all had a bit of a chuckle over Anthony’s gamesmanship in keeping his flight waiting on the tee box while he enjoyed his gado gado in the club house.

A valuable lesson learnt by Simon though not perhaps in the sartorial line where Anthony’s  talents for colour violence appears to know no bounds.

Things are looking much busier for next weekend at Lido when there are already 3 matches lined up.

Next up

You would have to have been vacationing on the dark side of the moon not to have noticed that next weekend sees us at the splendid Lido Lakes to the south of Bogor, this for rounds on both Saturday afternoon and, of course, the usual Sunday morning Tee Set event.

A good response from Tee Setters to date with 25 players registered for both rounds and staying overnight on the Saturday – and with a number of intrepid souls up for just the Sunday morning round. If you wish to play just the Sunday morning then sign up here as usual.

Fuller details of the weekend schedule here, the only thing missing from it is the poolside BBQ on the Saturday evening. There are still places available and you can also book for the weekend there if you haven’t done so already.

The location also provides non-players with plenty of opportunities for distraction with a huge swimming pool, tennis courts, horse riding, trekking and heaven knows what else so no excuse for not bringing partner and kids!

See ya at Lido!! … Tee Set

If anybody needs extra incentive to play Lido, it comes in the form of additional prizes on offer for the top order winners. Low gross/nett, low putts, first birdie/sandy/par over 30. Some excellant bottles of Australian wine are there for the taking.
