The Last Supper - Senayan Style

The Last Supper – Senayan Style

The Day

Twenty seven players arrived at the Senayan course in quick time via streets quite devoid of cars and bikes due to half of the city’s Moslem population having already headed back to their ancestral villages for Lebaran.

The course was a little soggy underfoot due to heavy overnight rain but soft receptive greens more than compensated for the lack of roll on the fairways. A cloud-free baking hot day helped speed up the greens as the day wore on but contributed to a lot of very weary and dehydrated bodies climbing the club house stairs to the 19th hole.

SN NewcomersA healthy 3 Newcomers to report this week so a warm Tee Set welcome to all of Kai Chee Wan, Martin Blobner and Paul Chidwick. Enjoy your golf with Tee Set, guys.

Manoj Mishra headed the Welcome Backs list at 25 weeks which puts him on schedule for his usual wife induced 2 rounds a year with Tee Set – and with his only competition being James Tan at 19 weeks.

Seventh installment of the monthly medal for 2014 and the last to be held at the quaint inner city Senayan course.  Although the course has proved very popular with our members, the course’s management decided to kill the goose and go for an increase green fees by a whopping 60% and slip the tee time from 11AM to a totally unacceptable 1PM.

At the end both revisions turned out to be non negotiable but the final nail in the coffin was the Rp2.6M fine levied for not reaching our minimum player quota of 40 on the one Sunday of the year when many of our regular players were out-of-town for the Idul Fitri holidays. Senayan National ….. thanks for the memories.

The schedule for the rest of the year, including the new Monthly Medal venue is close to being pinned down and will be published next week. Inschallah.

Craig Ewers and Ric Wymer ended the day with 41 Stableford points and a Low Net of 64 apiece with the Monthly Medal Stableford VDoor voucher going to Ric on a countback and Craig taking the Slaneys Meat voucher for Low Net.

Taking Low Gross and a voucher from Cecelia’s Cafe by a full 6 shots was a Simon Reynolds in a rich vein of form with 73 off the stick while Neil Mullins’ 25 putts wiped out the opposition and earned him 6 of Santi’s Premium Pies finest for Low Putts. Santi reminds us that she is back from her holidays in the Mediterranean sun and taking orders again!

WinaManoj has clearly not let the grass grow under his feet during a 25 week absence as he made a birdie on only his second hole as played and went on to hit the ball 253 meters to take Long Drive – while the President of a Couple of Very Important Things put it to within 1.3 metres to earn himself a red one for Nearest to the Pin.

In the other minor prizes, Alan Fenwick made par at the 8th to take the HC>=30 award, Wina took the money at the 3rd with 1st Sandy while Tom Grace took advantage of being allocated the right hole to tee off from to take Most Improved with a 9 shot improvement on his back nine.

SN BoobySN SkirtsThurmond, Giovanni and newcomer Martin Blobner represented something of a thin return for the treasurer on the skirts front.

Only Martin was brave enough to hang around long enough to be pictured with the skirt itself. Well done, Martin!

Worth noting that Ric Wymer’s net 64 was despite 38 putts; hitting greens in regulation seldom improves your putting statistics.

Fuller, player by player results can be found here while more photos from the day can be found on the Tee Set Gallery.

2014 Tee Set Matchplay Championship

Craig Ewers chose an excellent day to shoot his net 64 as that fine score was also to see him home to a 3 and 1 victory over another Chris, Chris Murchison, who played to his handicap to no avail!

Our current understanding of the state of play in the two brackets can be found here.

Next Up

It is some years since Tee Set has darkened the door of Halim II, however, the Immediate Past President of Most Things reckons it is fair dinkum and we will be there on Sunday next for an 11:30 tee off and green fees of 500,000 – both to be confirmed in our second post of the week.

Located next to Royale Jakarta off the Jagorawi Tol, Halim II is easy enough to get to, absent bad luck with the timing of the hordes returning from their annual trip to the kampung.

Let us know if you are playing here.

See ya Sunday! … Tee Set
