Another perfect Tee Set Sunday in beautiful playing conditions at the excellent Imperial Golf Klub with a K out in the eastern flatlands, a venue much enhanced for many by the opening of the final section of the outer ring road.
40 minutes from Cecelia’s Cafe in Kemang to pulling up at the classy Imperial clubhouse tells its own story.
The course was a little quirky which is what you’d expect for a totally manufactured course, however, it was a good and fair challenge while the club house facilities, staff and food could not be faulted and the price was spot on.
Caddies were by general consent cute, but not worth asking for a read on a putt by and large.
First time Tee Set has ever visited this course in its 30+ years of existence – but we’ll most definitely be back again, hopefully before the end of the year with a bit of schedule rejigging.
A bountiful 48 Tee Setters this week with 9 Newcomers to report and welcome this week, a new record, enjoy your golf with Tee Set all!!!
Two massive Welcome Backs this week with, leading the field, Anita Sheard whose last recorded game with Tee Set was way back in May 2009 to establish a new record 275 weeks absence, while Dale Matthews trailed in second place with a “measly”100 weeks absence until today.
Also good to see Nicky Moir back from Scotland for a couple of weeks visit after 22 weeks away from the Big Durian. Have fun Nicky 🙂
There is a good selection of photos on our photo gallery for the day. The high-rise buildings popping up on the horizon makes for a somewhat bizarre, almost existential, view from the fairways.
The Tee Set fashion police were forced to give out another yellow card to Lucas Sheard, this after spotting him strolling down the fairway in a pair of the brightest orange slacks you will find in a long day’s march.
Tough on the eyes, and quite unmissable as you can see. Mrs Shears when approached was unable to explain Lucas’s taste in golf wear saying only that “it is NOTHING to do with me”.
The Tee Set carry bag was left at the President’s house after the B-B-Q last Sunday so, for the skirt photo, we had to improvise. Napkins made a more than adequate substitute for the pink tutu as you will have seen above.
The Play
Round of the day was surely the startling 72 off the stick from George “Pulpy” Bevege. George really didn’t see what all the fuss was about with regards to those slippery greens and nasty pin placements. George’s amazing round also meant that Simon Reynolds long run of Low Gross wins is finally broken though he was to take some consolation in the money for first birdie on his very first hole as played.
The biggest winner on the day however was Peter Bush who took the major honours (we are a Low Net society as the Current President of a Number of Things constantly reminds us) with Low Net for the second week in a row, coming in some 9 shots below his handicap this time out for a net 63. Brenda please take note and adjust his handicap accordingly.
First Sandy went to Mike Reid on his first outing with Tee Set and bets are on he’ll be back next week. Low Putts with 27 went to Chris Chan who remembered that buying a beer in the morning for the Immediate Past President of Most Things ensures you’ll always be the winner if a count back occurs. Will others learn from his example??
John Suermondt yet again secured First Par of the day for a high handicapper, this on hole 5 played despite playing with a pronounced chicken wing swing handicap.
Most improved was shared between Jason Vanderlinde and Agatha Coulthard with a starting if not unprecedented 9 shot reduction on their respective back nines.
Rather a moderate skirt haul this week but for once we go all of them in the frame, well done fellas. Agatha Couthard’s mammoth 275 weeks away from Tee Set has clearly not improved her putting as she was to take the Monster Putter “award with a convincing 44 blows while Tom double dipped in sharing Most Strokes with the Immediate Past President of Blow Up Holes and Martin Blobner Well done to each nad every one of you, your treasurer loves you all 🙂
Fuller player by player resullts here.
2014 Tee Set Matchplay Championship
Next up
Next week will see us back to Matoa for the Monthly Medal.
Your hard-working (and hard-drinking – ED) committee has spent countless hours in the Star Deli discussing where the monthly medal should be played in the second half of 2014, with Matoa eventually getting the nod over Senayan in a close contest.
The Tee Set Championship event will also be held at Matoa on the last Sunday in November, the 30th – make a note for your diary.
Matoa will be our venue for the next 6 Monthly Medals, and was of course the venue for our first 8 such events. The Immediate Past President of Almost Everything informs us that the course is in good nick and the clubhouse, recently updated changing facilities and the staff are all very welcoming, though the caddies by and large fit snugly into the old and gnarled category which will surely make many wives happy.
A tee time of 11:30 from tee boxes 1 and 10 on Sunday and green fees of 525,ooo roops if you want to walk this walking friendly course or 600,000 if you share a buggy. Likely to be very hot this weekend and this might influence your decision.
(note: the tee time may possibly move to 11:00 but we will confirm on Thurday)
Sign up here for your chance at all the usual and also the many special prizes available at every Tee Set monthly medal courtesy of our fine sponsors.
See ya Sunday at Matoa!! … Tee Set
PS Handicaps
Handicaps are of course an evergreen source of conversation that invariably generate rather more heat than light.
To add fuel to the fire, you can find you own USGA handicap (or anyone else’s) and the rounds upon which it is based by visiting this website and putting “TeeSet” and your surname into the obvious places, when all will be revealed. Have fun.
