40 Tee Setters showed for the Monthly Medal at a Matoa looking its Summer best on the day, with the greens in fine nick though still a little ragged around the fairway edges. Another feature were the cart paths being put in on nearly every hole, great idea, just hope we don’t have to use them.
Getting there in the morning traffic was a problem for some with every five minutes later you leave Jakarta seeming to be penalised by arriving 10 minutes later at Matoa. The trick here is clearly to leave home a bit earlier and avoid the worst of it.
Two Newcomers this week after last week’s torrent at Imperial, in Dede Nielen-Groen and Dennis Ryan. The round was Dede’s first game ever and she managed to break 140. Five more cards and she’ll have an official handicap 🙂
Enjoy your golf with Tee Set both.
Proudly heading up a significant list of Welcome Backs this week is Bob McLeod who last played with us in the 2010 Tee Set Championship, making his a 194 weeks absence in all. We understand Bob is retired now so hope he’ll get back to being a regular since he will have a lot more time on his hands. Hasten ye back Bob, and don’t leave it so long next time.
Also good to see Mike Taylor back after 17 weeks – and we noted that wife (and former Tee Set secretary) Liza had been left back in the States. How did you pull that one off, Mike? 🙂
Facing the biggest challenge of the day was Mel Meeds whose tempo was somewhat disturbed by having to keep his cheeks together as he took each swing – with several unscheduled trips back to the club house failing to help. Still finished his round though, well done Mel!!
The extra batch of Tee Set shirts we ordered a couple of months ago are just about gone after another 4 went today. Their great price at just 250,000 roops and fine style have made them popular with Tee Setters both old and new and another 25 of the new style have been ordered and will be ready for the 21st September round. Get in quick because they have proven to be a very hot item.
The Play
Nicky Moir on his short (but steadily getting longer) trip back here is playing out of his skin. Followed up an ace at Cenkareng the day before he secured the coveted Monthly Medal with 43 Stableford points, and of course the Slaneys Butchery Rp500,000 meat voucher.
George Bevege is very much the in-form player taking low gross for the second week in a row with 79 off the stick while Dave Shenman just loves Matoa as seen from his score in last year’s championship and was to take low net with 66, though needing to be pulled apart from his mate Evaldo Roos on a countback.
Brad Sincock hugged the fringes and followed most chips with one putt. This is of course the Tee Set way to land Low Putts and he did just that with 26 shading out the Millers who took 27 putts apiece
Longest drive also went to Nicky Moir and nearest to the pin was Simon Reynolds that won him a bonus pack of 6 Santi’s Premium Pies which you see him here receiving from the eponymous Santi.
Eagles are a rare bird but Craig Binks just managed to sneak one in on his last hole played. Neil Young after a long absence managed to get his money back with First Sandy on hole 18. Obviously few sandies about today.
Bob Fleischmann always a slow starter but strong finisher took most improved with 8. 1st par over 30 shared by Jaco and Lina
Rod Ritson won the only cross dresser prize today but was man enough (sic) to don the famous Tee Set pink tutu and its accompanying, rather violently hued, wig; and he cuts a fine figure in it. Well done Rod!
Harold Hayne, normally a decent putter, chose today for an off-day to take the Monster Putter Award with 42 blows of the flat blade while Tom Grace convincingly won Most Strokes with an outstanding 13!
More detailed player by player results from the day here and more photos of the day on our photo gallery.
Jakarta Interleague
Though Tee Set did not participate in the Interleague’s 2 man Stableford (we pulled out early by the way and not the day before), this report of the day will be of interest to many.
Next Up
Another stand-out course for you this coming Sunday with a return to the very fine Peter Thompson designed Padang Golf Modern. The opening of the Jakarta Outer Ring Road’s “missing link” will make the trip rather faster than previous with an expected travel time of just 45 minutes from Kemang.
Green fees of just 650,000 roops including shared cart is a fine rate for this class of course. Tee off from 2 tee boxes at 11:30.
Sign up here so as not to miss what should be another very fine Tee Set Sunday, they just keep on coming.
