The evidence, though hardly needed ….

While 41 Tee Setters were to arrive in good time to enjoy a Palm Hills course in great condition, apart from a sand shortage in many bunkers, the last and 42nd, Wina, managed to arrive a startling 45 minutes after the official tee time, impressive even by her own high standards in this respect but still managed to find a flight that had not tee’d off yet! We reckon she must radio ahead to the starter before leaving home.

Lots of renovations and additions to the clubhouse infrastructure and all apparently being funded by beer sales. At Rp65K a can it has to be the most ridiculous price of any course in Jakarta. We would mind less if they spent some of their ill-gotten proceeds on a few lorry loads of sand.

Your scribe noted that many players, having received due warning, had sensibly taken “mitigating action” 🙂

Newcomers and Welcome BacksTwo Newcomers in Aditya Chitharanjan and Victor Delannoy and plenty of Welcome Back players headed by Robert Humberson at 53 weeks and Mel “Cross Dresser” Canteralla. Great to see them all.

Bob is working at getting a realistic handicap but just 7 games in 2 years and only 2 for 2014 is making it rather difficult however. He can of course play in the Tee Set Championship event but needs another 3 outings to qualify for the Championship crown itself on November 30th.

With secretary Brenda out-of-town, webmaster Keith took over registration and result data input duties and finished looking none the worse for wear. As he designed the database and wrote the associated programmes this came as little surprise. Nevertheless. please hurry back Brenda, we miss you – and Keith more than anyone 🙂

Splendid Ryder Cup event at Fez after the game with 10 Tee Setters and many partners showing up to support their favoured side. They were to be rewarded with a high quality Footjoy Ryder Cup Shirt, a sleeve of Pro-V1s, free flow Bintang, exquisite food courtesy of the best Indian Resto in Jakarta – and some quite sublime golf in the company of their fellow Tee Setters.

Well done Europe for taking it to the Americans once again. Next time, Messrs Runyon and Baglivo!!

The Play

Skill Prizes

Show me the moneyCraig Ewers took full advantage, and more, of a handicap of 22 that looks well overdue for review to take the day’s biggest prize. the Monthly Medal and the Slaney’s Meat voucher.

A Santi Miller fast returning to form took advantage of the absence of the Galacticos at the Star Deli event to win Low Gross with an 83 off the stick while Mel Canterella’s 43 handicap proved enough for him to secure Low Net with a 67!

Santi's PiesPeter Bush on the other hand took advantage of the dry conditions, and got plenty of roll on the Long Drive hole, #11, to win the category while Nearest to the Pin was KK with 5m from the pin to take the money and six of Santi’s Premium Pies finest and was probably the only player to hit a long and very difficult green.

The Jelineks remunerative run at 1st Par for HC >= 30 continued, with Jan doing the business this week at his 8th hole as played while Steve Harper took Most Improved with 9 shot improvement on his back 9.

The Immediate Past President found the apron on so many holes that Low Putts was firmly in his bag with an extraordinarily low 24 putts.

Booby Prizes

Martin B skirtMartin Blobner kept his Skirt ratio at a perfect 100% after 3 outings; this is the sort of record that the watching but hitherto long absent “Cross Dressing Queen”, Mel Canterella, would be proud of.

Martin also took a share of Monster Putter with Newcomer Victor Delannoy while Steve Harper celebrated a return to Tee Set action after an 18 week absence with a handy 12 to take Most Strokes on a hole but still finished ahead on the day.

Fuller, player by player details can be found here.

2014 Tee Set Championship

We hope that all know by now that the Championship will be held at Matoa on 30th November with a rather challenging Shotgun Start from 14 holes at 7:30.

Anyone who has played 5 or more times this year should already have received an e-mail inviting them to participate in the event and giving them until 10th October to preferentially register.

If you think you qualify on that criteria and haven’t received the invitation then drop us a line.

BWA Pink Golf Day

A chance to support the British Women’s Association and its supported causes, and have a lot of fun, on Wednesday 8th October when the BWA are holding their annual Pink Golf Texas Scramble. Play yourself or get a team together and register to join in.

Next Up:

A relatively swift return to the charms of Pangkalan Jati on Sunday where a good turnout can be expected as usual on a course with many fans, a few detractors, cheap beer and very decent food. Get registered here for what is always an enjoyable day at our former headquarters.

Tee off will be from 1 & 10 at 11:30 – a time that is likely to be advanced somewhat, so get there in good time please Wina – and everyone else …

See yah at PJ!! … Tee Set
