The Day
42 Tee Setters at Riverside meant that the green fees were just 695,00 for Riverside, a great rate for this wonderful course in peak condition.
A couple of Newcomers to report in Yangjin Chung and Bill Ashby with Jangjin getting an early taste of the red folding stuff with a Sandy Par at just the second hole he played. We hope you enjoyed your golf with us guys and will return soon and often.
No doubt who took the big “W” award this week with Billy McCarroll at a blow-away 79 weeks. Welcome back all!
The current President of a Few Things managed to just make the tee time in the last group at Riverside in a hectic week for Peter as, after being in the winning Kristal tournament team on Friday, he took the first flight back to Singapore on Saturday morning to play with VIPs from Thailand and on Sunday took the first flight back to Jakarta dressed in his golfing gear and drove straight to the Riverside course. Now that’s dedication.
The classic moment of the day was undoubtedly Pulpy George ranting and raving about having to play 3 holes without his cap and towel.
Pulpy dashed back to the clubhouse from tee box 13 to get them only to be told they were not to be found. Threatened to burn the place down until his caddie politely pointed out they were in the cart and that he’d been sitting on them the whole time.
Hard to live that one down Pulpy, sama-sama the 4 putt on a very tame #1 green as you played it 🙂
Another moment perhaps worthy of mention was Mel Meeds hitting straight right into the trees on tee box 15. This hole has the red tees to the left of the pond but significantly in front of the tree line Mel had just hit into. Nevertheless Mel insisted he should not receive a skirt because it could not be proven where the ball ended up. The Immediate Past President of Most Things, playing in the same flight, took full cognisance of Mel’s most excellent point but nevertheless immediately marked him down for a skirt.
Secretary Brenda returned after a couple of weeks on other official duties and managed to input over 100 score cards to the handicapping program. Prior to the championship on the 30th November a final review will be made by the committee, on licensed premises, to make sure there has been no massaging of handicaps. Brown envelopes gratefully received.

With the late 12:30 start, even a mini-shotgun start couldn’t prevent two flights failing to finish due to the torrential downpour just on a very early dusk. The dry season is well and truly over by the looks of it.
Flooding on the Jagorawi Tol meant the Riverside staff were forced into overtime with very few Tee Setters wanting to take on the crazy traffic conditions straight after the rain storm and cold Bintang bottles went into short supply very quickly.
A late departure from the clubhouse was to find the Tol in relatively benign condition with no more than a relaxing 1 hour journey back to Kemang
The Play
Giovanni celebrated his return from a 13 week absence by shooting the lights out in his extraordinary 11 under par to take Low Net, while Joseph Peries’ 9 week absence didn’t affect his game either, shooting a fine 73 off the stick in taking Low Gross.
Living life on an airplane has clearly sharpened up Peter Reichlmeier’s putting as he took Low Putts with just 28 of them while Steve Hulbert’s improvement of 16 (yes, sixteen) on his back nine to take Most Improved was the most arresting performance of the year in that category.
There can seldom have been a more popular winner of Monster Putter than Geoff Thwaites’ 42 blows, a feat received with the loudest roar of the day while Craig Edwards 11 strokes prevented a major win by the Treasurer as there were 6 people breathing a sigh of relief behind him, all on 10 strokes.
Respectable crop of 6 skirts on the day but no photo unfortunately, so that will be some relief to them all
As always, more detailed player by player results and an opportunity to see some more photos of a very fine day on the Tee Set gallery.
Presidential Election
Pleased to advise that both Craig Ewers and Simon Reynolds have both put their hands up for election as Tee Set President for 2015. As last year, you will be able to cast your votes before we tee off on the 30th November at the Tee Set Championship.
Next Up
Kedaton out on the Merak Tol is our destination this Sunday, a destination that should be a breeze for most with the JORR missing links completion.
A long and challenging course with excellent greens and more water than a stick could sensibly be shaken at and one which, ironically, we like to play in the rainy season, as it is just about as far away from the rain-prone Bogor area as we can get.
The food is good, the caddies rather professional on the whole and the clubhouse staff welcoming – though the beer prices will make your eyes water and you may wish to effect the usual mitigating measures.
The last time we were there saw the usual rich crop of latecomers due to the rather complicated exit from the Merak Tol fooling some. On Thursday we will give detailed guidance in the doubtlessly vain hope that the situation can be avoided this time.
Tee off will be at 11:00 from 1 & 10 with green fees of 650,00 roops including cart but it does offer one of Jakarta’s few remaining walking options at 110,000 less – but be warned that we usually get away early so, if you want to avoid having to make three new Korean friends like Mo Maharam did last time, don’t cut it too fine.
Get yourself signed up here for another great Tee Set Sunday at Kedaton.
PS yet another pair of sun glasses left behind, this time “Jupiter” and now to be found in the Tee Set kit bag.
