Kedaton, Sunday 16th November 2014

and its goodnight from them

Clearly in no rush at all to leave a warm and friendly clubhouse …..

The Day

A Tee Set Sunday can have no better start than a fast and trouble-free journey from home to the course and today was to see exactly that – with 25-35 minutes from South Jakarta being reported by almost everyone to what was once the “faraway” Kedaton out on the Merak Tol.

As ever, however, and this despite the explicit warnings and detailed instructions provided, we were to lose a couple of Tee Set Pilgrims having a go at Michael Seabrook’s current stranglehold on this season’s Vasco da Garma award. Arrival just before tee time was not to help their case however, and there remains only one week left to really, really screw up a journey and snatch the coveted trophy from Michael’s very firm grasp.

An excellent turnout of 50 Tee Setters  found it a little dark and threatening at the start, however, the weather was to prove kind and just got better and better, and even hot and sunny by the end, doubtless influenced by our prescience in having our very own Pawang Hujan on hand.

The last turn out at Kedaton was the just 29 Tee Setters earlier in the year – with the increase reflecting generally increasing attendance levels and, undoubtedly, the effect of the opening of the JORR’s “missing link” making for greatly improved access to all the Western courses. This effect will certainly be taken into consideration when the new committee meets in December to establish and confirm the programme for 2015. The class act hegemony enjoyed for so long by the Jagorawi Tol courses is clearly under threat.

Welcome backsJust one Newcomer to report in Paul Mercer who you may see in the reports as Peter Mercer thanks to Presidential nominee Craig Ewers; sharpen up Craig 🙂

Hope you enjoyed your round with us, Paul!

16 Welcome Backs to, erm, welcome back, with once a year visitor from Brisbane, Mark Blake, leading the pack at 46 weeks, having convinced his boss that the cheapest way for him to get to Hong Kong was via Jakarta. Nice work, Mark.

Other notables at 25 weeks were King and Pascal who always come as a pair of course, while Dawn Rea hasn’t been seen for all of 23 weeks, shame on you, Dawn!!

The Play

Skills

ShoesWell done Jako who, on a gentle upward curve with his game overall, hit his best score of the 16 rounds he has played with us since joining back in May, and secured Low Net for the first time wearing a pair of luminous green shoes that only a Saffa could take for a fashion item 🙂

Continuing a rich vein of form, Neil Mullins took Low Gross on a countback from Mark Blake while “fringe king” and Immediate Past President of Almost Everything sneaked Low Putts with just 25 of them on excellent greens.

Dawn - 1st SandyAmongst the minor prizes Mel Meeds shot a lopsided 52-39-91 to secure Most Improved, a remarkable three >=30 handicappers all waited until exactly the same hole to record their first par, to the disgust of the treasurer, while Dawn Rea didn’t hang about in taking 1st Sandy on her second hole as played

Boobies

skirts recordThe Treasurer’s grin on seeing that we had a new entry to the list of events achieving skirt double figures today was as broad as we have seen for a while; many thanks to all who contributed to that cheesy grin.

That list is just 7 long – and with Kedaton now appearing twice.

Shanes beer coolerSo a rich crop, though many chose an early exit to avoid the compulsory photo session in the pink tutu though Nick Sherman was to put in a great solo effort as you see opposite showing off Shane’s empty beer cooler for reasons that were not immediately apparent. Well done Nick.

As always, more detailed player by player results – and an opportunity to see some more photos of another great day on the Tee Set gallery.

2014 Match Play Championship

Matchplay champsJust 1 behind after 10 holes Peter ” Bushy” Bush was well in contention before a poor run of saw him go down 5 and 4 to the ever-steady David “Bags” Baglivo shooting around his handicap.

While Dave will only get his trophy etc on Tee Set Championship Day on the 30th November, a bottle of fine single malt donated by the President of Some Things went to him to celebrate while a bottle of JD courtesy of Jeff Durham went to Peter to ease the pain after his fine run to the final.

Dave immediately found he had acquired a new “best friend forever” in the shape of John “Malty” Suermondt who lost no time in helping make sure that the single malt bottle was to achieve “kosong” status by the close of today’s even more extended than usual proceedings.

Well done David, better luck next year Peter – and many thanks to Fernando Gaggino for taking on the poisoned chalice – and getting the 2014 Matchplay through to a successful, exciting and ahead of plan conclusion!

Nobody has EVER volunteered to take on the task a second time, so we are doubtless now in the business of looking for another mug doughty Tee Setter to take on this important role for the 2015 Matchplay Championship. If you would like to put something back into Tee Set by coordinating next year’s event then please drop us a line.

2014 Tee Set Championship

You may have noticed that we have updated the site with the logos of our 5 Gold Sponsors for the 2014 Tee Set Championship, many thanks to them all for allowing us to put together what we believe will be the best golfing day ever in Jakarta on the 30th November. We are now full up and with entry closed.

Next Up

Next Sunday we are back to Jagorawi for the final Interleague event of the year and the trophy presentation.

Format is a a token novelty round with teams of 4 using scoring based on a Stableford format (rules are on the score card)  The winners and runners-up will receive some fine bottles of Aussie wine to be shared with those who stay behind.

After the game there is a b-b-q dinner with steaks and beans from Kees De Korver and Indian food from Pradeep. A keg or two of beer will be provided or until the Interleague funds run out whichever is later. We need confirmation on who’s playing to get the catering right so please sign up as usual.

Tee off will be 12:30 with a shotgun start off all tee boxes. Based on previous events the day will be a blast so don’t miss it.

See ya Sunday! … Tee Set
