The Day

A quite splendid day at the seldom visited Padang Golf Modern where we were to be treated royally by the management, staff, course, caddies – and the weather, which was like that of a day stolen from Summer, whatever that is in these parts.

Welcome Backs

No Newcomers to report this week, and indeed some rather unimpressive Welcome Back numbers with only Tim Jeffrey and Richard Mau in double figures. Welcome Back to all nonetheless!

It's upside down you idiot!!

It’s upside down you idiot!!

With the Interleague and some supporters playing at Jagorawi, a turnout of 27 Tee Setters at Modern was pretty impressive, though late ins and outs were compounded by the Starter’s invitation to commence teeing off 45 minutes early. something which was to leave a Web Guy, with no grown-ups in sight, in a state of some confusion. No matter as he was to gain some solace later by so distorting the prize awards that he managed to get 100,000 for himself for Low Putts.

No worries, things sorted themselves out as they always do and we were to enjoy a delightful round on a course in great condition – and in a little less than 4 and a half hours.

The schedule we mentioned above does not have us back at Modern until the middle of October. Shome mishtake, shurely?

The Play

Skills

Mark deliriously happy upon learning of his victory!

Mark deliriously happy upon learning of his victory ..

With most but far from all of the serious competition away at Jags, Mark Johnson could almost have his choice of prizes if it were not for our rule that forbids taking more than one – he got Low Gross therefore, allowing Ken Runyon to take Low Net A Grade and Keith Miller to snap up Low Putts.

Low Net Winner this week

Overall Low Net and Grade-C winner was a delighted Pascal Bekaet who attributed his recent improvement in form to imbibing his favourite pastis throughout the round, though it was to fail to have a similar effect on “Malty John” despite his vigorously joining in the imbibing. You have to understand that John and single malt whisky are in a non-exclusive, or what is often called an “open” relationship.

Chris Lever maintained his regular appearance in the winners circle with a Net 71 to secure Low Net B-Grade while another Pastis follower, King Tirto, was also to benefit from our “1-prize only” law in taking 1st birdie as late as the 13th hole he played.

Boobies

skirtsJust two skirts to report from a course with a rather weak ladies committee and where the red tees were seldom to be found very much in front of the blue.

Chris TillChris Till is slowly filling in his I-Spy book of Tee Set regalia, this week snapping up the Monkey Mask for Most Putts with just 40 blows of the flat blade, while Craig Edwards and Peter Bush were each delighted to find the other sharing Most Stokes on 11.

If we also had a “prize for “Most UN-improved” then Bushy would surely have won it with his 48-60-108 for an “un-improvement” of a very worthy 12.

More detailed, player by player results can be found here while more photos of a great day are on the Tee Set Gallery.

Interleague Round I

A report on Tee Set’s very fine 10-0 triumph over Sentul Swingers will follow soon.

Next Up

cute-caddiesDespite what you might right read on the schedule page (and the Singing President promises faithfully to update it this week) next Sunday sees us at the delightful Permata Sentul which is, along with all its other virtues – and according to legend, the home of the cutest caddies in Jakarta.

Located off the Jagorawi Tol (heading South, come off at the Sirkuit Sentul exit and go left BEFORE the entrance to the Sirkuit itself) it is generally a little too expensive for our frugal Tee Set course selection parameters, unless that is they make us an offer we can’t refuse.  And it is just such an offer that sees us making such a late change in venue this week; so, an affordable 730,000 all-in with green fees etc. including shared cart for a fine course – and with a free pitcher of beer throw in for every flight of 4.

All in all a no-brainer, so get signed up as soon as possible to make sure you can join in what will undoubtedly be a great day. Rain? …. we are Tee Set and we spit in its eye 🙂

See ya at Permata Sentul!! … Tee Set
