Despite the late change of venue from the popular Palm Hills to Permata Sentul, 32 Tee Setters fronted up and 31 of them set off in a mini-shotgun over 5 tee boxes, with Robert Humberson retiring hurt before a ball was struck. Hope you are feeling better Robert 🙂
Chris Lever was the beneficiary of having his own driver for the day, pink uniform and all. The KPK need to look into that perhaps, though maybe they have enough on their plate at the moment.
For the second week in a row the Starter evoked some fluttering in the Tee Set dovecot by announcing we could get away very early – and causing further confusion by telling us we could have a shotgun start from 5 tees. The Former President of almost Everything is made of sterner stuff than your average Joe in the street however – and soon had us rearranged appropriately and on our way.
The only rain of the day had started and stopped even before play had begun, providing comfortable if somewhat humid playing conditions – and some invigorating trekking for those who love a good walk. The round moved along briskly with all finishing well within 5 hours.
The caddies, staff and facilities made for a very enjoyable day…not to mention the free pitcher per flight – and really pleasing to see a number of non-playing partners joining the day and enjoying the splendid scenery and hospitality offered by Permata Sentul.

Rick Zanker led the Welcome Backs with a rather low 12 weeks though special mention has to be made of Tee Set regular Neil Mullins who returned from a short, self-imposed exile, with a half set of clubs and a somewhat restored, but still fragile, karma. Neil was heading for a remarkable first round back until some wayward driving and chunky chipping late on threatened further depletion of the contents of his bag.
It is received wisdom that Permata Sentul has the cutest caddies to be found on Jakarta area courses and there was little evidence to contradict this today as they displayed their virtues (eg green reading skills) in their pink uniforms across the course,
Other creatures about also, with numerous close encounters with monkeys being reported and the feeling of playing in a zoo further enhanced by a number of other unidentified small furry creatures bounding through the woods and indeed the odd snake here and there.
Nothing of course that would worry your average Tee Setter for whom anything less than a fully grown gorilla is blasé.

A Sentul Des Res – another KPK victim perhaps?
The play
Simon Reynolds again impressed with his rather startling mint hued strides and smooth strokes, carding 77 with a 36 on the front nine to take Low Gross.
Sofree was the picture of steadiness in wining low net for A grade, while Norman Bunter is on something of a hot streak, once again securing a red one with a round of 87, tying net B grade and taking first sandy par.
Chris Smith was also totally up on his luck winning Low Net B on a countback from Norman, first birdie (which he sacrificed to the Singing President) and the envy of his playing partners as you can see in the photo.
Jaco Zaayman returned to the winners circle after giving others a chance for the last few weeks, carding a strong net 68 to take the money for C grade Low Net.
After steady performances for some time now, Chris Chan took out Low Putts with 30 while evergreen Tom Alcedo sprang out of the starting blocks with the 1st Par >= 30 on his very first hole.
With a miserly 4 strokes improvement shared between three – and all starting from different tee boxes, Most Improved was left unawarded this week.
Tom Grace was convinced that having OB-ed well past the red tees with his first drive, that failing to reach the ladies tee box with his second didn’t qualify him for a skirt. Cucu, marked his card for him, however, and thought otherwise while Chris Smith proved that wearing a skirt AND winning Low Net is perfectly feasible. Missing from the skirt photo is seasoned rocker Chris Till, presumably lost in the dressing room trying to find a better stage costume.
The Immediate Past President of Almost Everything celebrated Chinese New Year late with a string of lucky 7s and 8s on his card and shared Monster Putter with Umaya, Evaldo and Peter but, at just 39 putts, Ric decided to take pity on himself, and the others, and spared them all a fine.
More detailed, player by player results here while photos of the day will be on the Tee Set Gallery as soon as we can convince Yahoo to give us new password.

If you have registered then perhaps check to make sure your name is on this list – not all our administration is done by our efficient secretary unfortunately.

What can we say about Pangkalan Jati that hasn’t already been said? We will therefore stick with its always drawing a healthy number of Tee Setters – and that the committee is pondering some sort of diversion or other to mark our return.
Tee off at 11:00 from 1 & 10 – with green fees of an as yet unknown amount – but very unlikely to break the bank. Sign up here.
See ya at PJ!! …. Tee Set
