Of the encouraging number of 36 Tee Setters showing at Kedaton today, there were a large number of very early birds, with the journey time even better than advertised and many were there as early as 9am. who needs the Jagorawi Tol 😦
Among the 36 could be found the Honorary Vice President for Exotic Drinks welcomed back after 9 weeks away, arriving so early that he had to leave without performing his mixologistical duties. In fairness, Kedaton Club House and exotic drinks are not the most natural of partners. Let’s leave it to next week at Imperial, James.
A larger than usual morning turnout of Kedaton members threatened a significant delay in Tee Set’s 11am start time but our first groups teed off before 11:30, so credit to the starter, members and marshals for moving play along.
The Singing President announced that men would be playing off the white tees due to the length of the course (as it turned out, apologies we had the wrong information on this).
The change was welcomed quietly by many and challenged loudly by others even though Handicaps had been adjusted accordingly In any event despite this horrific development the scores showed that the course proved a fair test off the whites, the earth span normally on its axis while continuing to circle the sun – and the birds failed to appreciate the enormity of this earth-shattering change and just carried on singing.
That there was just one player under par off the “too easy” white tees on the day tells its own story – and even he needed the aid of a 27 handicap to do so 🙂
We are back to the blues for men next week at Imperial for the March Monthly Medal and the second round of the eclectic 6 week Imperial Champions’ competition, so a chance to make up for the holes you blew out on last time!!
The rain threatened and then came but play continued and then went away as it so often has during this year’s kindly wet season.
The Kedaton course and greens were in good shape and once again the chance to walk the course was welcomed by those many craving some exercise after a week stuck in the office, classroom, hotel or airport lounges.
A big thank you to Santi Miller for standing in and assisting Brenda while the Former Past President for Almost Everything went on tour and the Web Guy enjoyed a well-deserved day off Tee Set duties.
No Newcomers to report for the first time in a while.
Fully 34 of the 36 players playing today had played in the previous two weeks leaving us with just 2 Welcome Backs and even they were only in single figure. Well done the hard-core.
Special mention for Maya Till who broke 100 for the first time today in demonstrating further steady improvement. Chris could be heard singing Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and offering the occasional profanity in the background – but it clearly didn’t put Maya off her game.
The play
With Simon Reynolds donning his now customary mint green strides and narrowly maintaining his clutch on Low Gross with a 79 strokes, there was an absolute scramble for the Low Nett awards with A Grade shared among 5 but eventually being decided on a count-back with Santi Miller narrowly pipping her playing partner Neil Mullins in shooting an impressive 39 on the back nine.
Santi’s playing performance was obviously assisted by Keith’s absence and Neil Mullins’ much smoother cart driving. They made sharing the cart easy too by hitting their shots to the same position as this photo on the 15thgreen demonstrates.
James Ross maintained his consistent form in winning Low Net B grade once again while Jan Jelinek maintained kept his household’s account sheet with Tee Set positive by taking Low Net C grade and allowing Leona what will undoubtedly be a short break from the spotlight.
Of the five A Grade net winners who remained in the clubhouse, Sofree Abdul, took out 1st Sandy while joining Sofree in the winners circle was Anlo du Pisani who won his skirt money back with 1st Birdie on the very first hole.
Most Improved with 9 strokes was awarded by the Singing President to himself, in what he described as a lack of skill prize after a very shoddy, hungover front nine of 53. Pascal celebrated with 1st Par >= 30 handicap, again winning his skirt money back.
Today was another clear demonstration the what the Lord giveth, the Lord can taketh back again – or some of it anyway.
A reasonable 6 skirts, including that of Jaco Zaayman’s on the first which was happily witnessed by at least 12 Tee Setters waiting on the tee box.
Matt Kaempf and Jaroslav shared Most Strokes with 11 while Monster Putter was once again not to be awarded as the high was only 39 putts – and Matt had already done his weekly duty.
More detailed, player by player results of the day here.
Registration – a reminder
Your timely registration is important for us in a number of ways, ways which we shall not bore you with. For these purposes “timely” is meant by 5pm on a Friday. If you meet this deadline then you will be grouped according to your wishes if you have any and you will receive a scorecard with your name and handicap on it.
Should you register after this time then you may or may not receive a scorecard and it may or may not have your handicap on it. Should you fail to register before the deadline and don’t get a scorecard at all – or one without a handicap on it – then it would be best not to complain about it too loudly.
2015 Tee Set Matchplay Championship
The 2015 Matchplay finally got going at Kedaton with the normally chivalrous Tom Grace beating Wina 3 and 2, while the Chris Chan/Paul Taylor match up went to extra time with Chris nicking it at the death an epic putt off after the pair had finished all-square.
Over at Matoa meantime, Joe d’Cruz went 1 up against Jan Janda at Matoa.
Winners go to the Emas bracket, while the losers go into the Kuningan bracket. If it is any consolation to the losers, it is the Kuningan bracket that usually supplies the winner!
The full and final line up (Never say never – ED) of the 46 participants in this year’s matchplay can be seen here. A gentle reminder that these matches must be played no later than 30th April and that results on Tee Set Sundays should be reported immediately to Brenda. If you have your match anywhere else then please report results to matchplay Championship Organiser, Fernando Gaggino.
Someone paid their Matchplay Fee of 100,000 roops at Kedaton and we managed not to make a note of who it was. Everyone claiming it was them should let us know.
Next up
Monthly Medal at Imperial of course. Another fantastic day at our great new home course in store – and we really, really promise to remember to bring the Closest to the Pin and Long Drive stuff this time – or else we buy EVERYONE a free beer.
All the usual stuff as well of course plus a Slaney’s Meat Voucher and six of Santi’s delicious pies – what more could a weekend hacker ask of a Sunday in Jakarta? Sign up now before it all goes.
See ya at Imperial!! … Tee Set

No problem, Tony, just give the card(s) to Brenda next time you attend Tee Set and it will be done ..
Do however make sure that the card has:
– your name
– the tee box played from
– the date played
We regularly receive cards missing one or more of the above and they are immediately filed in the WPB 🙂
Cheers, TS
