The day

Just one Newcomer in Lars Schaumann to report today, enjoy your golf with Tee Set, Lars, the caddies get prettier than those found at PJ – and don’t forget to bring your new Tee Set shirt and other paraphernalia next week!
Welcome Backs rather sparse too with Kathy Hill’s 43 weeks topping the bill, well ahead of Dawn’s 18 weeks. Welcome back to all.
A reduced but enthusiastic field of just 25 Tee Setters, a result of the long Easter weekend and Bandung Bash, were to enjoy glorious weather at the start, weather which was thankfully to cool down somewhat after midday as relief in the shape of cloud cover made a most welcome appearance. Those who had chosen to walk were certainly feeling the pain by the end.
A full car pack was not to be the best of views upon arrival, however, the PJ starter is always keen to pick up his two red backs and managed to get the groups off more or less on time from two tee boxes – and an entirely reasonable 4.5 hour round for most, with the course far more free-flowing on the back nine after the 9 o’clock starters had left the battlefield.
After overnight rain, lift clean and cheat was still in place as the Singing President was on duty in Bandung and in no position to override the rule. Harold Haynes, in his last few months with Tee Set before moving back to the States, said he knew nothing about the Easter weekend Bandung Bash – and must surely he must be the only one with his head that deep in the sand 🙂
With Harold visibly disappointed by learning he’d missed the boat on such a legendary event, we decided to let him play off the white tees as small compensation.
Babora Gaislerova was breaking in a new set of clubs which she had been given way ahead of her birthday. When quizzed on how they performed, the only comment forthcoming was “I could have played 5 or more shots better”. Join the club, Barbora, we all wish for that, and maybe even a little more.
The course was a little under-mown due to the recent heavy rains and with very little roll as a result, but the truly staggering change, never seen before on PJ, was the blue tee boxes set way back in the zone normally reserved for the black tees on many holes – with the result that we were all intensely jealous to see Harold teeing off so much in front of us from the whites.
Good to see the club management spending some money on the amenities such as the new chairs provided on tee box 1 – very comfortable while you wait for the numerous flights in front of you to tee off 😦
The play

The occasionally maligned PJ was up to it today with no one matching its par even with a handicap – and Simon Reynolds usual Low Gross of 84 was 10 (ten) more than his round at the mighty Jags in Interleague last week. No pushover then.
Alastair, Harry Hill and Chris Till took the Low Nets in A, B & C – a first ever Tee Set cash-positive Sunday for Chris!
2015 Matchplay Championship
Three more 1st round results today, with 2 of them going to the 19th green!
Koen beat Mike Webb 3 and 2
Keith beat El Guapo on the putting green
James beat Ric on the putting green

James Ross, newcomer Lars Schaumann, Jaroslav Gaisler and Keith Miller did not cope so well with the tee boxes being set so far back with all them succumbing to the numerous cross dressing opportunities afforded by Tee Set as you see in the photo – Keith with his very first swing of the day – to the delight of a significant if sensibly muted audience.
Greens were a little furry and Pieter Groen did not cope too well here either, taking Monster Mutter with a stand-out 43.
He does already have the tee-shirt and looks so comfortable in the monkey mask that one can only imagine that more high putting is on the way 🙂
Although Harold had the luxury of playing off the whites he still managed to get most strokes at 12, much to the dismay of the treasurer who was hoping to take money off the 6 players all perched on 9 shots. Nevertheless Harold still ended the day ahead after collecting the Most Improved award.
