Rainbow Hills, Sunday 9th August 2015

Highlights The Day

The last 20 minutes of the drive to Rainbow Hills is always a test but, as Mel, Chris and the rest of us soon found out,  it was worth it for an excellent venue and two different and challenging courses.  The established Mountain 9 and the more recently carved out Stone Hills 9 offered some of the more intimidating elevations and deceiving lines off the tee.  Those hunting for Most Improved headed straight for the Stone Hills course.

Cooler mountain air, great staff and caddies, and a clear course made for extremely pleasant round of golf, free from delays other than those caused by the occasional search for wayward balls.

A special welcome back after a full year away to Alan Fenwick who entertained his flight and caddies with a rich array of Indonesian curses, before being entertained himself by thesound of dangdut echoing through the hills.

Of course, traffic home was as appalling as usual, prompting a few old-hands to sensibly sit it out somewhere in Sentul before joining the queue.

The Play

How 4 eagles snuck in there – who knows – assume they are birdies 🙂

Summary

As we have explained before, Tee Setters can only be awarded one prize…holes in one being an exception, as Bags found out recently!

Mark Johnson’s fine round of 81 had him topping the table for Low Gross and Low Putts but in Tee Set tradition Low Net takes precedence and Mark was awarded the A grade Low Net with 69.

The Singing President with his best ever Tee Set round of 86 in taking Low Net B Grade Award with 66, again provoking the usual calls for handicap justice.  Low Gross went to Tim Knight with 87.  Wina somehow snuck into C Grade to take out Low Net C Grade with a 73 net (Wina had a 26 HC on the day therefore qualifying her for C Grade for once – ED).

In the skills prizes, Jaco navigated the tricky greens with 31 putts, James was all smiles after his First Sandy on the 8th, Alan and John “Malty” Suermondt shared the 100k for First par Over 30. Special mention to Koen who challenged the Tee Set Most Improved record with a 22 stroke difference…going out in an awe-inspiring 70 on the admittedly challenging Stone Hills course.

And now for the fun….an unexpectedly low number of skirts at four, unexpected given the advanced ladies tees, with just 4 serial cross dressers keeping the Treasurer happy.  Alan was on safari on the Stone Hills par 5 8th with a 14 stroke efforts which took him across streams, up hills, into bunkers and eventually to a green where his playing partners gave him a warm welcome back to the group … and a 10ft gimme to put him out of his misery.

Last but definitely not least, Monster Putter Bags pictured below with his furry friend claimed his 43 putts were all because he made so many greens in regulation….yep.

So, and as the sun set, and Mel “eventually” made it back to join his mates and the lovely Nadia in the clubhouse, where Ric and Brenda did a great job on the post-match and we left Rainbow Hills after another most enjoyable Tee Set day out up to that point, just a shame about that macet.

Matchplay results

Four matches were decided.  Cucu battled shot for shot with Jiro, closing it on the last for a strong 2 Up win and moved one step closer for a showdown with Tom who also downed Koen 4 and 3.  Geary is stealthily creeping through the field with a 2 up win over Jaco – a good battle from all accounts – with Jaco sculling one on the last which only marginally failed to penetrate the clubhouse window.  Jan Jelinek and Doug finally managed a time for their match, with Jan taking the honours 3 and 1.

Next up

A return to the delightful Lotus Lakes course out on the Cikampek Tol on Sunday where we will be away to an earlier than usual 11:10 start with green fees of 750,000 including compulsory shared cart.

While one of our most distant courses the travelling time can be expected to be very significantly quicker than from the early Sunday evening traffic blighted Jagorawi Tol courses.

Sign up here to join in the fun.

See ya at Lotus Lakes! …. Tee Set
