The Day
Less than 2 weeks after celebrating not missing a weekend for 32 years, we came bloody close this weekend. Saved by some very fancy footwork from Wina and Keith and our trusty friends from Pangkalan Jati. The fact that 40 Tee Setters managed to keep up with the communications and make it to the first tee is a credit to everyone. Unfortunately we were in for a slow start to the round but speed of play improved dramatically on the second nine.
No newcomers but big welcome back to Sudhir after 53 weeks golf free living in Singapore.
The Play
While not overly long or difficult, PJ continues to baffle many Tee Setters, who fail to give it enough respect. A bountiful harvest of 10 skirts ranked up there with the most tricky of venues and kept the Treasury flush. Andre, we know its you under the wig. At least you didn’t run away before the photo.
There are few Tee Setters who manage to avoid a skirt…its only a matter of time.
In other booby prizes, Kim Pham with 43 putts got to meet our furry friend as Monster Putter. Kim is one of the many beginners joining Tee Set this year and it’s great to have you with us Kim – that’s why we overlooked the 15 strokes you had on a hole…this time.
The nett and gross prizes always take priority over skills prizes, even if players end up on the top of different tables.
Chris continued his consistent form winning nett A grade with a 71, as did Jiro with an excellent 66 to win Low B Grade and Lina with 73 to stay in the winner’s circle and win low net C grade.
Simon warmed to the challenge of playing alongside Barbora to win Low gross with an impressive 77.
Barbora is back from the long European summer break and suffering from some baffling swing issues which she will no doubt solve in time to wipe that look of the Vice President’s face next time they play.
As anticipation grows for the Tee Set Championships and our final rounds of what has been an exceptional interleague season, we hope to see our top guns firing in the weeks to come.
In other prizes, Anlo capitalised on monster driving with a birdie on the second. Graham and Tom are more about finesse, sharing a hug and the prize for Low Putts with 28 a piece.
Renny shot the first par for an over 30 handicap – amid standards calls for handicap justice – and Cucu was left to explain the tragedy of her first nine as she took Most Improved. Santi “Mrs Pie” Miller would have been under the same spotlight had she not had to take off early.
Perhaps the best picture of the day, and the prize for the first Sandy Par on the 2nd hole goes to Pocket Rocket Daniel, who played an excellent first nine before coming back to the standard of his playing partners – Dad Jaroslav, Mum Jana and the Singing President – who did nothing to inspire him on the day. We all concluded it would be better for his golf to be in a different flight from us next time.
In what may be a practice round for the Tee Set Club Championships we are returning to Matoa Nasional next Sunday. Tee off time is 11am, price is 600k including shared cart. Register here as usual.
