The Day
It’s always good to see Tee Setters making the photo talent for a change. 42 took to the course for what has unfortunately become a habitual slow start, with 5 other flights being loaded onto the 10th at our allotted starting time. This led to all sorts of adjustments and frustrations, and a slow first nine, during which we did lose a couple.
Welcome to Arthur for the first time and welcome back to Brian, Anna and Frank and Geoff after long absences from Tee Set.
The Play
Some very good rounds today highlighted by B graders Pieter and Daniel sharing the Net B Grade with nett 68s – and possibly the record for the biggest age gap between joint winners – if only we kept such records.
Both were more than eager to talk about their rounds. Pieter shed all attempts to be grumpy – thanks too for your help in registration, Pieter – good karma for your golf performance. Daniel, separated deliberately from his parents for the sake of his golf, proved us all right and made sure we didn’t miss one shot by recounting each hole in the clubhouse after – man, they learn quick!
Andre won the money for low nett A grade with a 69, even though his new handicap put him in the B grade – anyway…great round Andre – you are an A grade fella. C grade was also mass confusion, but after awarding it to Malty, we could hardly deprive him when we discovered Tom had shot 2 strokes less, and the chance to photograph these two together was priceless….what was I saying about talent!
Barbora rose to the challenge in last week’s post and equalled Simon’s effort of 83 for Low Gross. In other prizes Tom Grace sprung up again for a shared prize with Jari for first birdie on the third, Mick won his skirt money back with first sandy, Al again was supreme with the flat stick with 28, winning on a countback from Geoff and Anna who also had 28, and Renny kept her grip on the First Par over 30 prize for the second week running. Lis, in her second game with Tee Set improved 13 strokes to win most improved…well done Lis (pictured here – right – looking the part on the course).
Lis was to also claim the Monster Putter but gallant husband Ric, the immediate Past President for Almost Everything, stepped in to grapple with the monkey. Mick and Mike made a fine pair, the only two that earned a skirt. We didn’t manage to catch Olivier on film for Most Strokes but he was honest enough to admit the 12 he took and pay the fine.
In news of the day, Mike Webb thought he was Mark Webber, overestimating his ability to take the corners and ending up beached with one wheel spinning in the air. Fortunately his playing partners and caddies were able to lift the car to safety. Quizzed about the incident later, Mike blamed his i-caddie, which he accidentally switched into dirty talk mode just at the wrong time. Chris who was sharing the cart at the time added a new expletive to his already impressive vocabulary.
Neil and Graham were seen to sneak off the course mid-round, not together, but clearly suffering. Hope you are feeling better guys. To make up for the slow start, Matoa put on some free jugs and the majority kicked on.
Matchplay
In a return bout of last year’s bitter Trans Tasman Slugfest at Senayan, Murcho and the Singing President lined up on the first to battle out their semi-final, after Murcho disposed of Vice President Simon the week before. With all forms of trash talk and mind games, the match went stroke for stroke until handicap difference and enough luck at the right time gave the Singing President a 3 and 2 win.
On the other side of the draw, things were a bit more confused as Mark J called in with the flu to postpone his match with Anthony and the two Jans stood up Cucu and Chris Lever. Chris and Anthony decided to battle anyway and Chris took the honors, but Supreme Commander El Guapo will now have to decide what’s going on in that half of the draw.
Next Up
Yep, its that time of year again. Former President and all round legend Geoff is holding his birthday bash – complete with our good friends the Band from Bandung – after the round at Jagorawi on Sunday 20th.
Interleague will start at 9.30am – with Tee Set looking to close out the championship against Mad Dogs. Tee Set will start around 10.30am. Apart from the entertainment there will be plenty of free beer and lots of fun. We are in the process of working out a reasonable rate. Register here as usual.

I give up trying to follow how winners are determined, obviously random
Clearly a stuff up. Onto it for next week.
