The Day
Some days are about the course, but this week was all about the people. A great day of fellowship with golfers from other societies participating in the Interleague and celebrating the birthday of our mate and former President Geoff.
An earlier than usual start as many Tee Setters joined the Interleague competition, eight with Tee Set’s team who were looking to wrap up the season victory, and another 10 or so with other teams either as regulars or last minute ring-ins to make up numbers.
Special mention has to go to Jaco for filling in at last minute for Loose Impediments, not able to wear their standard apricot uniform modelled by Tom here. Also to Bill playing against Jaco and his team mate – despite trying to recruit Brenda to be his playing partner.
Captain and Immediate Past President of Almost Everything Ric was roaming the course keeping his eye on the troops, accompanied here by Interleague El Supremo.
Tee Set went down 6 points to 4 to our friends Mad Dogs, thanks in part to some brilliant chipping in off the green from fellow Tee Setter Norman and quality play from other team mates. All will be decided in the last round next month.
Welcome to newcomers Tracey and Mike and to those coming back, most notably Jeff Durham after 44 weeks away.
Geoff’s party started early as he teamed up with Mike and kicked on long after the camera was put away….a great day and a taster for the Club Championships in November.
Lots of great photos of the day here.
The Play
With funds going to other causes and not wanting to disrupt the party, prizes this week took the form of recognition only…so here is lots of recognition. The free beer, rum, food and music to celebrate Geoff’s birthday was appreciated (thanks again to Geoff who was in fine form as usual!) and the Club Championships, a bonanza of prizes and giveaways, is just around the corner.
Lina, this week’s C Grade net winner, and Renny not far behind continued their fine form this year with outstanding rounds of 66 and 68 nett on a tough course.
B graders struggled with Daniel topping the table with a comparatively high net 80. Murcho, notched up another interleague win partnering Daniel (below) to remain undefeated, scoring a 76 net and taking out A grade net.
Vice President Simon again won low gross on his way to another win in his interleague singles to retain his unbeaten record this year.
In other prizes, a rare eagle for Anlo on the 1st, followed by a sandy par on the second, but that honour reverts to Cucu for her effort on the 5th. Murcho’s birdie on the 7th was the first but he won Low net so Rasmus is next in line for his birdie on the 11th. Jaco managed to help out Loose Impediments, made up mostly of Tee Setters anyway, and had both Low Putts with 28 and Most Improved with a massive 20 shots – a tale of two halves – 65 and 45…on the one prize rule, he cant win both, but Rasmus had also won, leaving Leona and Mike’s 3 shot improvements under the threshold…try and work all that out!
Surprisingly on this course, there was only one skirt, obviously Jan trying to keep up with matchplay opponent Cucu. Despite hitting his second before Cucu teed off on that hole, he managed to win their match and picking up a birdie on the 15th. Pieter, playing in his interleague debut with Tee Set after a string of good performances, and Tom shared most strokes with 11 and Jaturaporn featured again in dispatches with Monster Putter after 43 putts.
A couple of corrections in prizes from last week too – we will sort you out when we have cash next time we see you – Alistair was Low Net A grade – but is square because he won Low Putts – but Anna and Geoff we owe you a prize for sharing Low Putts – problems with grades are now fixed…for now!
Tee Set Matchplay
Jan and Cucu finally faced off in their matchplay quarter final, with Jan taking the honours 4 and 3. Despite the fierce battle, good to see they were still friends after.

Well done mate. Good report even though you didn’t play. A picture says a thousand words?
Low puts last week (Matoa) was won on a count back by Alistair from Anna and Geoff
Alistair was actually winner of net A grade so Anna and Geoff win low putts.
