The Day

2010-10-04 Riverside (12)

38 Tee Setters enjoyed a fantastic day of golf on what has become one of our favourite courses, with friendly staff and excellent facilities.  Quite a few newcomers – not quite as many as listed here – but welcome guys.  Our growing Thai contingent again featured in the prizes…and skirts.

Welcome back to Richard after 8 weeks and a range of others after 6 weeks away.

The Play

Riverside

Straight to the skirts…..8 tee setters failed to make it past the Ladies Tee….and Cucu was not far off either (caught on camera here).  A quick check with the Web Guy confirmed this is probably our youngest group of cross dressers we have had:

Jan and Chaovalit shared Most Strokes with 12 strokes – don’t look so sad guys, this is no disgrace on Riverside, which probably accounts for more lost balls than every other course except Jagorawi’s Z Course – right Bushy?

2010-10-04 Riverside (21)

For the second time this year, Bags took out the Monster Putter – this time he could not claim it was because he hit so many greens in regulation – he just played crap. Next week no doubt he will join the winners’ circle again.

2010-10-04 Riverside (22)

Paisan was Most Improved – now becoming known as worst front nine performance – with a massive 16 shots difference.  Chris Lever thought he was a definite but even some creative accounting couldn’t get him over the line. For future reference, Most Improved is not calculated on holes as played on a semi-shotgun start – too complicated for us – it is calculated on the difference between first nine (as played) and second nine….so are we clear on that (?)

Skills prizes were taken out by John (first par over 30), Sapakhoon (first birdie – great effort for an over 30 handicapper) and Richard was all smiles after winning Low Putts, winning on a countback from Rasmus and Saphakhoon, all with 30 putts, a great effort on the challenging Riverside greens.  Photos here…apologies for not posting all here – your scribe is running out of time.

And now for the winners.  As expected on a tough course with the last holes rushed through in fading light, there were no blistering rounds but Leona was back in the prizes with Low Net C grade and Ric returned to form with the net round of the day with 70 – Photos here. Ric no doubt now qualifies on form for selection (by himself) in the Tee Set Interleague team for the last round later this month.

Santi for the second week in a row led the A graders on net score with a net 72, with new hair style.

Last and not least, the story of the day, is the return to form of Neil Mullins.  After his rousing performance of Islands in the Stream – or was that Wedges in the Trees – at Geoff’s birthday bash at Jagorawi, Neil was back, courtesy of sponsor San Miguel Light, to win Low Gross with 85.

It will be the last we see of Neil for a little while as he heads of to Nepal to trek up Everest.  The main challenge will be finding porters strong enough to carry his cool box.  Have a great trip mate!

Tee Set Matchplay Results

James gradually wore down Jan, despite distractions thrown from behind by the Singing President, with a solid 2 and 1 victory.  James now advances to the semi-finals of the Emas division.  An update on the match play competition will be published through the week.

Next Up

Next up will be the Peter Thompson designed Padang Modern, starting at 12.16pm, green fees 730k including cart.

It’s own website extols the virtues of the golfing experience:

truly provide world class quality when it comes to golf play. This goes hand in hand also with top class customer service, amenities, and most especially good food for the hungry golfers. These services are intertwined to make the golfer’s stay as peaceful as their game. Compared with the other golf courses in the world, these resorts in Asia really boasts of clean cut grass beyond the sunset, with the wind kissing each golfer’s face, not to mention the breathtaking sights that serve as the background for the course.

Register here as usual, enjoy the peace and cut grass, and get your face kissed by the wind.
