The Day

This month brought back to us some of our former Tee Set stalwarts, introduced some new friends and saw off (for now anyway) one of our true characters.

Some serious welcome back players to acknowledge with Dave Allan topping the list at 54 weeks.

Medal Hilites

We suspect he was looking for an excuse to get out of Singapore’s choking haze. Appears  Jakarta is one of the few places left in the world not yet affected by the haze generated by the fires lit in Sumatra and Kalimantan. Michael Seabrook has been away for 47 weeks which by coincidence corresponds to the first ever Vasco De Garma award reserved for those unable to navigate to/from the course. No fun getting lost in the narrow kampung streets of Gading Raya and BSD. Mike Garwood has been a regular Tee Setter in the past but at 43 weeks away we will have to question his recent priorities. Laurie O’Connor also came in at 43 weeks but flew under the radar as to where he has been this last year.

New players included the big hitting Luke Prince, Rob Ovevton who spent more time than all ofus on the greens, Stefan Rafales who had some frightening stories to tell of golfing in Brazil, and Jakarta ladies Putri Utami Sudija and Lidya Pratiwi bravely venturing out for the first time with Tee Set.

Sadly it was Graham ‘Grumpy’ McGeady’s last round before heading back to Australia for a well earned ‘retirement’ break. His initial grouping experienced a small tee box SNAFU but that was part of the cunning plan by the Immediate Past President of Almost Everything to send him off with fodder for complaint. No doubt we’ll see Grumpy back in the group from time to time when he needs ‘relief’ from the granny state.

With 55 players signed up, Brenda still on family duties and the Singing President away it came down to a team effort to get the registrations, groupings and results done in an organized manner. Beby and Lis took over control of the Tee Set computer and did a great job all things considered with several new players to input, very late arrivals, missing handicaps, messy score cards or just wrong scoring. The web guy acted as consultant and trouble shooter when things started to go pear shaped but overall we got through the event with minor teeth gnashing. Great effort by Beby and the others but nevertheless, hurry back Brenda…..we miss you. Apologies to those who had to leave before the rather late presentations….we’ll make it up next time.

Great weather although a little on the pressure cooker side, the course in great shape despite the dry season including some welcome wildlife. No excuse for not having a fun round even if it was a little longer than normal.

The Play

Medal Summary results

Low net B grade and overall monthly medal winner was Douglas McQuarter with 39 stableford points. In addition he also grabbed nearest to the pin with 5’ 4’’ so could afford to take a limo home with his winnings.  Low net A grade was a tie with Fernando and Santi, probably could have been separated with a count back but it was already late and motivation was low. C grade went to Matt Kaempf with a 74 although the computer results didn’t reflect this….lucky for the reliable humans backing it up.

Rasmus worked out this week that to win Low Gross you can’t win Low Net so carefully managed to do so with a strong 82. Apologies to those who had to leave before the prize announcements but these missed prizes will roll over to next week as appropriate. Includes 24 low putts by Mark Johnson and first birdie to Bags who both get a free entry next round.

Long drive is worth a mention and Luke Prince has stamped his authority on this prize from his very first outing. Bombed it 322 yards!! Has already signed up for Interleague match play for next year to keep him away from the other teams out recruiting for 2016. Keith Miller rates an observation with his plus 60 on the front 9 which allegedly is the worst 9 in Keith’s memory (doesn’t say a lot for his memory – witnesses from Rainbow Hills can testify).  Turned it around on the back nine to get most improved with a 12 shot improvement.

Skirts were a plenty as usual when the red tee boxes are so far advanced. This time 7 skirt fines go into the Treasurer’s kitty including one from himself. Putting was not easy on these greens so 3 or even 4 putts were common. Rob Ovevton donned the monkey mask with 48 puts but he’ll be back next week to try and improve on that score.

Tee Set Eclectic – Progress after 3rd Round

Pastis Pascal continues to dominate the competition and after the third round leads with an impressive 57.  Do not be turned off though he has almost reached his limit!  Surely there are not too many more good holes left in him.

Tee Set Matchplay

?

?

Wina in fine swing here is still representing the Tee Set Ladies in her final against Anthony, and James is to take on the Singing President to see who meets in the Grand Finale.  So we need to get two more rounds of matches finished before the Championships on the 29th Nov when the Champions will be awarded the trophy.

Next Up

Tee Setters have been asking to play Bogor Raya for some time and we had managed to secure a start next Sunday but were just advised they could only offer a 1pm tee time.  This would have left us in the dark and at the price it’s not worth it.  So we have booked Permata Sentul with a 12noon start green fees of 748k includes a free pitcher of beer per flight.  Register here as usual.

Classifieds

As mentioned last week we are generally happy to promote events and businesses on behalf of Tee Setters – particularly if good deals are offered!!!!  It’s Rugby World Cup final time so another new one here.
