D.O.G.S. v Tee Set 4 HOGS

Trophy.PNG

26 Tee Setters and 24 DOGS arrived at a pristine Padang Golf Modern for the long awaited showdown between Jakarta’s two leading golf societies, somewhat strangely for the very first ever such meeting. As stated on the handsome new trophy created for the event, it is played for the glory, the bragging rights – and most importantly,  to help poor and unfortunate Indonesian children.

It is a fact of course that many Tee Setters play DOGS and vice versa – and the team line ups were to reflect the rather ephemeral concept of being either a DOG or a Tee Setter!

No matter as the bunch playing under the DOGS banner against those with a Tee Set logo proudly emblazoned on their chest were to punch each other out to an honourable draw, with each winning 5 matches and with 2 being drawn. Headline

After more than 5 years being one of those Tee Set/DOGS “society-swappers” we mentioned above, today was Geary Bowles last game with us. While playing for DOGS, he was sensible enough to make sure he and his partner played to a draw. Farewell Geary, it has been great having you with us – and we know you will be a regular return visitor to “the city that really never sleeps”!!

Lots more photos of a great day here.

It’s mind, no it’s not it’s mine, OK, we’ll share it !!!

The benefactor of today’s play, to the tune of close to 10 million roops between registration fees and generous donations, was of course the Yayasan HOG. Many thanks to all – and you might take a few minutes to check out on this YouTube video to see just where your money goes to when you support the HOGS, a charity without peer here in Jakarta and totally focussed on helping poor and terribly disadvantaged Indonesian kids – often enough transforming their lives.

If the video doesn’t bring a tear to your eye then you are a harder man than the cynical old bastard writing this post.

Please think about them if you or your organisation is ever in a position to provide good cause funds  – we can assure you that there is no better home for your generosity than the HOGS.

Next up

The former President of Nearly Everything, in the unfortunate absence of the Singing President due to a life threatening condition (and a Doctor’s note as is required by the constitution), confirmed today that next week will see us at our former and long time home of Pangkalan Jati.

Our last game before Xmas of course so daft hats and strange behaviours are actually encouraged for once. Tee off at 11:30 and green fees that are really cheap – and even cheaper if you take Shank’s Pony on what is an eminently walkable course. Sign up here as ever for some Xmas fun in the sun and maybe even a little rain.

See ya at PJ !! … Tee Set

PS Having carted 6 bottles of the wine all over Jakarta intending to award them to the 3 best winning flights, the above mentioned former President of Nearly Everything managed to forget to actually give them out and will be shortly be the recipient of a friendly but firm warning from the committee as to his future behaviour 🙂
