SENAYAN-NATIONAL-GOLF-CLUB

SN Hi-lightsThe Day

After heavy rains the night before, Senayan was a little boggy but the greens drained well and many a putt picked up speed as they took off down the slopes.  A few last minute withdrawals were balanced by a few last minute registrations.  With ten or so involved in Interleague including both VPs, the turnout of 56 was excellent (a couple of cards were not handed in).

Senayan’s very attractive promotional rate of 495,000 roops was not exclusive to Tee Set and the management failed to communicate that there would be a hold up after nine holes as Tee Setters caught up with other groups the starter inserted in between.  A few tense moments before the Manager and the Singing President squared off to avoid conflict between players.  The numbers booked made it impossible for everyone to finish before dark and regrettably a few missed their last hole, missing holes were completed with a bogey or double bogey depending upon handicap.

A better (though not necessarily cheaper) deal has been promised for 3 July when we play there next including an earlier tee time.

Overall there was a large turnout of players staying for several hours and enjoying Senayan’s great facilities, some kicking on to other more lively venues afterwards, including one party checking out new sponsor Shangri-la before they had their 30% discount cards…patience men!

To keep the Treasurer happy (which means ultimately keeping us all happy), Tee Setters contributed what could be record takings after shirt and bag tag sales, and a rich skirt harvest (below).  It comes back to you in prizes, events and championships so take joy in giving!

The Play

SN Summary

Some other pressures on your scribe have prevented the usual full spread this week.  A rather unusual result for Low Putts is being reviewed and no prize was awarded.  The key winners are pictured here, with Mark leading the tables in both low gross (76) and low net (67) A, which means John Mesiti and newcomer Rob Cheng shared low gross with 80.

Senayan also inflicted some damage: Pieter’s caddy retired hurt after a vicious slice from Dede struck her on the arm;  Mullins did a Mullins (see Glossary  here)…several times after losing his swing somewhere on the way to the course; newcomer Andrew Chee challenged the record with 53 putts to take Monster Putter but was spared a fine on his first round, and the 10 skirts, kept the coffers overflowing.

Detailed, player by player results, can be found here while there are lots of photos of a great day on the Tee Set Gallery on the way if not posted yet.

A discreet footnote on our brave warriors representing us at Interleague at Jagorawi.  The post victory euphoria has officially ended with a crushing 10 zip defeat to Tin Cups.  Captain Ric has gone into camp to rethink strategy.

Tee Set Matchplay

In an epic battle that was to swing either way during the afternoon, Santi (Mrs Pie) Miller and “Pastis” Pascal Bekaert ended up all square after 18 holes when it was of course (under the Rules of Golf pertaining to matchplay) their right to decide how to break the tie. To the astonishment  of most they decided to play another 18 holes at Imperial next week to resolve the issue.

In the only other matchplay, Mark Fiorello’s 76 off the stick and a net 67 was too strong for a nervous Renny Sperry, resulting in a 6 and 5 win.  Mark’s matchplay performances have been excellent to date and Renny gained valuable experience for next time, knowing she can relax and use her handicap advantage to shift the pressure onto the low handicappers.

Glossary of Terms

It has become clear that the site is in need of a helpful “glossary of terms” to assist the understanding of all, but Newcomers in particular – this is now provided here.
