Monthly Medal Imperial Golf Klub 24th April 2016

The Day

With the course now constant, Monthly Medal events are all about the people now, and we got some great photos again of Tee Setters going about it.  With hot, rain-free weather and fast greens, 56 Tee Setters all made it round to enjoy the beautiful sunset from the Imperial Klubhouse (!).  Thanks again to El Supremo Pastis Pascal and Brenda for great organisation assisted as usual by the Web Guy and Former President of Almost Everything in the background.

Welcome to newcomers Mark and Gary.  A baptism of fire for Gary on his first round, starting with a skirt on the first tee, followed by the usual sympathetic roars of laughter, and a cart sharing experience of a lifetime with the Caddy Whisperer in peak form.  Accustomed to cooler conditions in his home course in Nottingham, and less rowdy banter, Gary finished the round physically and psychologically exhausted, but eager to return next week.

Huge welcome back to Rick after over 4 years away and to Tadashi and Shane after more than a year each.  Shane received a special bonus as the last Tee Setter to pay his bill, with Imperial loading any items they were not sure of onto his bill, fortunately Committee members were still there to help him sort it out.

The Play

Murcho led almost every table he could today and was a worthy Monthly Medallist for April. Rasmus joined him for this photo after being awarded Low Gross.  Rasmus’s request to be paired with fellow low handicappers earned him some well deserved abuse at the after match drinks.

Pascal continued to make a run for the eclectic, no doubt stretching his lead, after being Low Net C Grade, joined by Jaroslav as B Grade winner and Richard in the A Grade.

Longest drive was awarded in three categories today: men’s (Rasmus – probably with his 3 wood), ladies (Lis – with her new driver) and kids (Daniel – working his way to the adult tees next year).  Jari was closest to the pin at 3 feet 5 inches.

In other prizes, Mel recovered from a first nine 72 (par!) to win Most Improved with 13 strokes, James took out Low Putts after adopting the Michelle Wie style technique, forcing playing partners to turn their eyes, Bags shot out of the gate fast with a birdie on the first and Joshua was again in the money with first sandy, after Richard took out Low Net A grade.  Surprise, surprise Bas won First Par Over 30….it took him until the 8th.

And now for the booby prizes.  After being saved by Matt at BSD, Kokom was ready to meet our furry little friend as Monster Putter with 49 putts – don’t worry Kokom, there have been many of us in your position.  Mirela had taken off before “collecting” Most Strokes but the Treasurer was not fussed as he watched a near record harvest of 15 skirts, so big we couldn’t get everyone in the shot.  There’s something about Tom in that wig that just isn’t right.

A number of great matchplay tussles – Laurie getting up 4 and 3 over Mars; Mark sealing a 2 and 1 nail biter with Ric with a birdie on the 17th, Murcho bringing his best game to down matchplay battler, King Tirto.  More on matchplay here.

Next Up

We are back to the fine Cengkareng course next week.  It is a walking only course so be prepared.  We expect a lot of numbers and may have to limit it to ensure everyone finishes.  Register here as usual.

Slow play

We have also stressed the importance of speeding up play, especially on busy days.  Don’t hesitate to play a provisional ball if there is any chance you may not find your first, but no mulligans.

Aim to be just behind of the group in front, not just ahead of the group behind!
