The Day

The day was always going to be a challenge with Gading Raya also having their monthly medal in the morning, but again things worked out fine. Everyone showed remarkable patience under the circumstances. With the Singing Prez out with a dicky knee and the Web Guy having a well-earned break, the Immediate Past Prez for Almost Everything lived up to his name yet again, slipped on the cape and undies, and applied some old fashioned technology to organise the pairings and get flights on their way.
The weather threatened all day but all we got were a few drops and just enough moisture to have the caddies scurrying for the bag covers. After one hole covers were off again. Course was in good nick but a little soggy after the heavy Saturday rain that flooded Kemang. Back to lift clean and cheat again.
Another hole in one this week…well sort of… not quite the same as Geoff’s heroics of last month. Pieter Groen with an 8 iron approach to the 17th green managed to pull it badly and it was heading directly for a couple of parked carts. A loud thud followed and we thought there goes the cart’s window but upon reaching the carts no damage was seen. Instead the ball had dropped short directly into a blue plastic garbage drum. Being a man-made moveable object he was allowed to take a drop no nearer to the pin.

A big welcome
back to Mike Landau pictured here with Jeff and no doubt enjoying time with the new member of the family. Welcome back also to three of our Thai Guys – Chakkapong, Jirathpol and Kasana (not Ke Sini?).
Three more Thai Guys – Opas, Piboon and Worapon joined our numbers for the first time, showing the Thais are gearing up seriously for the World Cup of Tee Set in October. 20% of our 59 players last Sunday were from Thailand, the land of silk: a new record and the registrations were well managed by Brenda despite some very tricky name spellings and pronunciations.
Welcome also to Lee and Kelly for their first game in Tee Set; hoping Kelly will come back after being nabbed for a skirt (photo below).
Great effort too for the guys who fronted up after playing 45 holes on Friday. Shane Rowles from Australia showed off his lily white winter legs, and Don Duttlinger down from Balikpapan for a few rounds of golf. Don played the previous Friday on the Asian Tigers sponsored Iron Man challenge and managed to finish all 45 holes unassisted by the cart. Tee Setters are made of stern stuff as proven by the fact over half the Iron Man players were from Tee Set. Billy clearly played himself into some good form.
The Play

Some very good scores which will no doubt be recognised in the eclectic results when we get to calculating them.

The Monthly Medallist with 44 points was Tee Set regular Jaturaporn (or Bas as we know him) who is always improving and has a knack of collecting one of the prizes on offer each week – with this form he no longer qualifies for the first par over 30 handicap, which went to his buddy Paisan this week (pictured below).
Well done Bas. Matoa was kind enough to offer free rounds which were given to Bas as an additional prize – not sure he needs practice at Matoa after his score at last year’s Championships.
Other net winners included Murcho, Chris and Gerald (the lessons are paying off) and Jeff had an excellent round of 78 to win Low Gross.
In the skills prizes, Rasmus showed how photogenic he really is after taking First Birdie, Pieter (Don’t Call me Pete) probably swore before getting out of the sand, then swore again when he got out, and again when he had First Sandy on the 7th. Piboon had a miserly 25 putts to win Low Putts and Dennis only woke up at the half way mark to win Most Improved with 18 strokes, only to go back to sleep and miss the photo, so Ricardo with 11 was more than happy to step in and claim some of his past investment back…what goes around comes around Ricardo.
Bill Lloyd’s great round of 88 must have qualified him for a prize here – and I’ll confirm which one in due course – anyway, who cares, well done Billy – great round!!!!
And now for the real champs….oops Ricardo – you had Most Strokes man, sorry I thought you had won Most Improved….oh, and a skirt…
VP Mel is clearly over skirts but had a nice par on the second hole to cheer him up. His fellow cross dressers seemed happy enough here, with newcomer Kelly donning the wig on his first round. Lis jumped in here to win Monster Putter, joined here by photo bombing hubby.
But the happiest of all was Drew, who for the first time had a skirt free round, and shouted his playing partners as a celebration…did he guys -looks like water Carm?

Next Up: Sunday 4th September 2016, Pondok Cabe, 11.18am, 450 000 Rp
Yes we are back to an old favourite. The Shangri-La stay and play didn’t really work out so we had the chance to fit Pondok Cabe back into the calendar. Those addicted to the top courses may choose to have a break but, for many of us, Pondok Cabe is a great day out and excellent value, especially for the battlers.
Register here as usual.
