The Day

imperial180916

Apologies to the eager beavers whose week is so precisely planned that this late post has thrown their lives out of order….purely a product of your Committee having a life outside of Tee Set šŸ™‚

After a slow start to registrations and a long break from Imperial, 49 was an impressive turnout with another 7 newcomers, following on from last week’s record number of 9.Ā  Here is a collection of 8 mug shots, apologies if you are wrongly included or omitted as we are working on limited information here at website central and will add or delete you as new information comes in from the field.

Disappointingly Imperial again let us down on agreed pre-match conditions but we did get off earlier than planned so all was ok in the end.

Tee Setters know by now how to fill in time before tee off so enjoyed a hearty feed and joined in the pre-match Pastis with Pastis Pascal and King (Luar Biasa) who generously shared their stash with a number of willing volunteers. In fact, there were so many takers, some wondered if there would be enough left to get King and Pascal through the game. Of course they did not run out, but Pascal needed 14 extra strokes to get around his second nine, so he may have had to play semi-sober. After this rather agricultural tee shot below, Pascal may have decided to let a caddy have a try.

The rain started to drizzle down only after a few holes, but not hard enough to discourage anyone from battling on.Ā  The thunder rumbled around the edges of the course but was not close enough for a siren to sound. As most groups commenced the second nine, the rain had completely abated, and things started to get steamy.

The Par 3 Fifth Hole has always been a bit steamy, where players are enticed by a couple of Imperial’s more entrepreneurial female staff to back themselves and bet on their tee shot landing close to the hole.Ā  The sales techniques have become more imaginative over time.Ā  VP Mel tried to negotiate a cover bet that his tee shot would land in the water, but there was no taking that action…..a very wise decision.Ā  Not a bad attempt by Mel, good contact, good flight, but yep his ball ended up in the drink, the blessing being that he had avoided a skirt.

A big thanks to Mel for being the sole committee member there and for Brenda and Pascal who assisted.Ā  Ric was off captaining the interleague team at Jagorawi, see below, and the Singing Prez was in Aceh, sadly not playing golf or having a Pastis.

Despite the late tee off, all groups managed to get back to the clubhouse before dark, as Imperial did not schedule extra flights between our groups. The food and beverage service in the restaurant was enjoyed by all as the sun set, and after the awards were presented, many were still seen relaxing and enjoying an extra drink or two and the pleasant breeze flowing though the clubhouse.

We will be back Imperial as Tee Setters love your facilities and service; but we have to work on that start.

The Play

On the course, Jeff continued some very steady form with a 77 to have the lowest round of the day, and the lowest net round of 70 in A Grade.Ā  He was joined in the net winners by Chris Lever rediscovering form and Gerald Schmidt whose net 67 is a reward for investment in coaching and some very hard practice.Ā  Having Isa back must surely help.

Ronald was awarded Low Gross with a strong 81.Ā  Pascal took First Sandy, Low Putts and first Par over 30 but could only win won of them. Paisan aslo had First Par for Handicap Over 30 so won that prize. Four players had 29 putts – Ian, Pascal, Richie and Jeff. Andrew won first birdie and KK and Rasmus shared the late to wake up award with Most Improved – 9 strokes better in the second nine – clearly massive Saturday nights.

And in no surprise for Imperial, a rick harvest of skirts, most remaining for our now classic skirt shot, in fact more in the shot than in the list, some late confessions perhaps:

Jana took Monster Putter with 45, no doubt provoking lots of comments from the kids, and Pierre proved his honesty with the Most Strokes Award, taking 13 on one of the holes.

Interleague

8 brave Tee Set Warriors fronted the aptly named Sand Baggers at Jagorawi, led by Captain Courageous Ric.Ā  After a very up and down season as reigning champions, we further restored honour with a solid 6-4 victory.

Chris Lever was a let withdrawal due to flu and was replaced by Simon Reynolds, who went down in the singles 4 and 3, no doubt handicap difference played a part. As we can see above, flu did not stop Chris winning B Grade at Imperial, so it must have been a geographically specific virus.

In the second singles, Stuart beat the very competitive Grumpy Kees, in what would have been an excellent match.

Murcho and Neil had a great win against El Guapo Fernando and Wobbly Bob Axel and interleague newcomer Lee also has a strong win paired with Axel. Ric and Santo went down 4 and 2.

Tee Set remains in 5th place with the final game remaining against the low ranking Pocksia.Ā  4 points separate Cloggies and Mad Dogs at the top of the table and they play each other next round. A mouth watering finish to the season. With a number of Mad Dogs being Tee Setters we may have to throw our support behind the team in red, but in event a good finish for us would salvage some pride.

Next Up: Monthly Medal, Gading Raya, 11.30am 850,000Rp

It’s Monthly Medal time and we are back to Gading Raya.

World Cup of Tee Set – 2nd and 9th October, Riverside

To ease administration, we have been contacting volunteers to captain and form various teams for this competition.Ā  We already have 2 Australian-New Zealand teams, one Indian team, one UK team, one Indonesian team, one South African team and one Canadian team. We are yet to have a US or “Post-Brexit” European team, so please volunteer (see below).

If you are not yet part of a team, don’t worry, you can register as individuals next week and we will find you a team. If you want to be a captain and can form a team of 6 (country, continent or region), then email the Singing Prez on craig.ewers@aipj.or.id as soon as possible and let us know.

The first week will be team competition (teams of two playing each other in better ball stableford format) and the second week will be singles (stableford).

If you can only make one of the two weeks, no problem at all.

Non-Tee Setters are welcome but handicaps will be at the discretion of the Committee.

We are looking forward to an excellent competition, with an emphasis on fun.

With Flu still won flight B.
Didn’t want to let the interleague team down with a bad performance.
I could have played but could have had a bad game.
Better to play players who were confident and up to it.
I wasn’t sure how my flu would effect my game.
