Cengkareng, 11th December 2016

The Day

Even though as expected in December we had a bit of rain, our 51 players (3 not reflected above because they didn’t turn in their card) managed to complete their round in a relatively quick time for Cengkareng, and so in quite pleasant breezy conditions.

We once more had a healthy 6 newcomers: Apinan Emem, Armand, Bruno Damblant, Dian Novita, Jonathan and Nick Dendy to whom we wish a warm welcome to Tee Set:

We also had a lot of old Tee Setters who joined us, maybe resulting in some record Welcome Backs, lead by Dennis Ryan after 119 weeks, Rob Davies after 92 and Rocky Wanglei after 90.

The Play

Low Gross went to Simon Reynolds for his 83, on a countback from Marcelo de Jesus and Geary Bowles who also shot an excellent 83 off the stick.

But Geary was instead awarded the Low Net A Grade for his 68, while Efsi Hayati won Low Net B Grade for her 66 and Jaturaporn Pikanbul won Low Net C Grade for another amazing performance culminating in a net 61 that will no doubt contribute to his ever decreasing handicap and his march towards the B Grade.

Tom Grace won Low Putts for his 29 on a countback with 5 players, but Tom was even more ecstatic about the birdie he got on #18 after having to take a drop for a penalty.

To the treasurer’s chagrin First Birdie was awarded to 3 players for their effort on their first hole: Joseph d’Cruz, Roger Finnie and Gerald Schmidt who had his best game ever, in what was his last one with Tee Set at least for a while as he is leaving Indonesia, but promised to come back and visit us and told me he would avidly continue reading our weekly newsletter.

Pieter Nielen-Groen having fully recovered from his foot injury managed to get the First Sandy Par on his 8th hole, as Mark Johnson was OB, but Pieter sounded even more thrilled by the fact he managed to avoid going to a wedding to be with us.

The ever improving Lis Wymer won First Par over 30 on her second hole.

Dennis Ryan shook off the rust of not playing with Tee Set for more than 2 years to win Most Improved with 14.

And in the less glamorous prizes section, the visiting Bruno Damblant earned the Monster Putter for his 40 with Ric’s old putter now part of the Tee Set rental bag he otherwise loved. While Cucu who seemed to have been distracted by the hoverboard she rented to play her worst round in quite a while, including an 11 on a hole to win Most Strokes, was still very happy with her day.

And finally as usual Cengkareng provided a fair amount of 9 Skirts for: Chris Smith, Dennis Ryan, Jaturaporn which obviously didn’t impact his game, Mark Johnson who doesn’t often join this select club, Mike Riley who didn’t seem to want to miss any photo opportunity with the pink, Pekka Kivioja, Pieter Nielen-Groen, Rob Davies who for his defense hadn’t played for almost 2 years, and yours truly.

Other Awards

Wina Nugraha was presented her runner-up trophy for her performance in this year Tee Set Match Play competition, she wasn’t during the Championship, as for those who forgot she was playing a second 18 holes during the ceremony.

And finally Mike Webb was over the moon to have won the lucky draw of the 2 Cengkareng free weekend round certificates, especially since he said he never wins anything, and was seen making new friends with people who wanted to join him when he redeems them.
