The Day
Keeping up the Tee Set mantra of “Never a week-end missed in 33 years”, 14 festive Tee Setters turned up to Pangkalan Jati to play the last outing of the year; held on Saturday 24th December so everyone could enjoy their Christmas Day with families and friends.
Thanks to everyone arriving in good time and some helpful organization by the Caddy Master, we were treated to an excellent day of golf. An early tee off, a clear gap for our 4 groups on both the front and back nine’s and fantastic weather all led to us being finished by 3.35pm and all off home by 4.30pm after beers and the prize giving.
The Play
With only 14 players, it was an opportunity for everyone to get some form of recognition and by the end of the day we did indeed have all 14 players with honorable mentions for either great effort and/or great success as the case may be. Our small group also meant that we gave the secretaries a welcome week-end off with the scoring being done manually by VP Roger Finnie. Apologies therefore if there are any quirks in the presentation of the results.
Monster putter was distinctly a family affair with Dede just edging out Pieter with her 42 putts but, as Pieter mentioned, it was a result which was “sama-sama” to the wallet.
Although we were a small group, the harvest of skirts was still strong with 42% of the male playing contingent contribution to the Tee Set coffers. Pieter being joined by Anlo, Joe, Pekka and Karan. Whilst Karan was spared any further monetary penalty for his most strokes (11), Joe was able to recoup his losses through Most Improved over the back nine (9) clearly benefiting from the warm up front nine after 25 weeks away.
Joe just pipped Peter Ruffy and Laurie O’Connor on the most improved but Peter’s storming back nine including 2 birdies was enough for him to win Best Net B Grade, joining Anlo du Pisani and Mike Webb who took home the money for Best Net A and C Grades, respectively. Mike’s 69 net was the best of the day with Roger’s 84 good enough for Low Gross.
On the skills prizes, Tom Grace took home the first and only sandy par of the day for his effort on hole 10 and Chris Lever, who had to leave early and therefore missed a photo opportunity, won 1st birdie for his effort on the Par 3 3rd hole. With the low putters having already won prizes and the next best scores being closer to the monster putter than low putts, the VP took an executive decision to preserve the Tee Set coffers and not award this prize.
Especially for our most recent members a reminder that you can find all kind of valuable information on our website and consult your handicap or at least the rounds you played towards the 5 minimum ones to get one by entering your name here.
Next Up
Thank you to everyone who turned up today to support Tee Set and for those who missed this week, there is a chance to make up for it as we will be back to Pangkalan Jati for round 2 of our double header at our former home course to welcome 2017 and celebrate the returning Mrs Pie birthday on Sunday 1st January for a mere 550,000 Rp without cart, even though some are available, with a tee off time of 12:00 or maybe earlier, so please register here.
In the meantime, the Committee wishes all Tee Setters and their families a very Merry Christmas and all the best wishes for a healthy, prosperous and golf filled New Year.
Special Thanks to VP Roger Finnie who “held the fort” yesterday and basically wrote this post.
