The Day
Matoa treated the 38 Tee Setters with a 15 minutes early start in brilliant sunshine, which meant that most players were already finished or were in their final holes when the heavens opened. Thanks to the earlier start we were also all finished by around 5pm in time to head home, not before having a few beers and laughs:
We had 1 Newcomer, Mark Fogerty, who had previously registered with Tee Set but finally played his first round with us, to whom we wish a warm Tee Set welcome. We also had a lot of worthy Welcome Backs, lead by Nuri Puzey and Matt Fairey with almost a year after 51 weeks and Guntoro after 47 weeks.
The Play
Regular winner Roger Finnie won Low Net A Grade for his net 73, while Chris Lever continued his great form of late to win Low Net B Grade with a net 67 and Nick Thomas won Low Net C Grade for his net 70.
Matt Fairey was awarded Low gross for his 85 off the stick.
Perennial winner Mark Johnson once more won Low Putts with an excellent 25.
Thanks to the one prize rule, Andrew Waite was awarded First Birdie on his 3rd hole, even though the in-form Chris Lever recorded one on his 2nd hole.
First Sandy Par would have been awarded to Goetz Ebbecke for his effort on his 4th hole, had he not been OB.
The Nielen-Groen had another good day, with Dede winning First Par Over 30 on her 3rd hole, the only one recorded by the high handicappers on the day! While Pieter won Most Improved for shaving 13 shots on his back nine, after having a terrible 53 on his front nine followed by an excellent 40 on his back nine.
The returning John Suermondt showed his lack of practice during his absence by being awarded Most Strokes for his 13 on a hole.
Dede Nielen-Groen unfortunately had to return half her winnings when she was awarded the less coveted Monster Putter for her 41 shots with the Flatstick .
And finally Matoa produced a measly 2 skirts, I don’t know if inspired by the Burns dinner the night before or the 6 Nations Scottish brilliant victory, but it seems like the Patron Saint of Scotland Saint Andrew must have been in the air as the only ones wearing the skirt were Andrew McDermott and Andrew Waite:
Andrew McDermott played his second and final round with Tee Set with the previous being the 2016 Championship. He was up for a one off trip to replace Peter Ruffy at the Oz Embassy and won’t be returning … so he said, but we all know as history has shown people always come back to Tee Set. Thanks to Billy Lloyd for delivering Andrew the only available spare set of left handed clubs in Jakarta, that had last been spotted in Geoff Thwaites’ car boot.
