The Day
What looked as a dreary day due to the incessant rain all night and morning, which discouraged a few registered players from showing up, turned out to be a quite pleasant one for the 33 Tee Setters who made the trip down to Pondok Cabe, with only a few quick showers and weather qualified as “for this tired old Brit anyway, was just perfect for golf” by our Web Guy.
After a bit of confusion from the committee over who was supposed to have printed the scorecards and a bit of struggle finding cables, the new Tee Set printer proved its worth and saved the day.
After which we were treated to an early or on time start, quick round on the ever improving Pertamina owned Pondok Cabe course, and quick finish when we were all done with the prizes ceremony before 5pm, which gave Tee Setters plenty of time to gather around our long table for a few beers (or pastis) and food, and what must be qualified as excellent service, maybe a little amateurish in comparison with the premier league courses, but intent counts for a lot.
We had 3 Newcomers: Jim Berndt, Niclas Roos and Poul Erik Olsen, who once more showed that Tee Set is international as being American, Swedish and Dane respectively, and all enjoyed their day and said would be back with us, to whom we wish a warm Tee Set welcome. We also had a lot of worthy Welcome Backs, lead by Jakob Sorensen after a huge 80 weeks and some of our favorite Tee Setters: Ivan Byriel after 11 weeks, Chris Murchison and Simon Reynolds after 9 weeks.
The Play
Fernando ‘El Guapo’ Gaggino won Low Net A Grade for his net 72, while Chris Lever who undoubtedly had the round of the day and his best ever gross 81 to win Low Net B Grade with an amazing net 60, while rare winner Reni Riley also had a fantastic round to win Low Net C Grade for her net 69.
The returning Simon Reynolds showed he hasn’t lost his touch and won Low gross for his 79 off the stick.
Mike Riley, who was just pipped by a shot by his wife for Low Net C Grade, won Low Putts with an excellent 27 he attributed to his improved approaches with the 62 degree wedge he found in Ric’s bag and I think is now in his.
Thanks to the one prize rule and the fact Geoff Thwaites was OB, Roger Finnie was awarded First Birdie on his 4th hole.
First Sandy Par was not awarded this week as Mike Riley who got one on his 7th hole already won a prize and Geoff Thwaites was OB.
King Tirto celebrated his upcoming birthday and retirement by winning First Par Over 30 on his 7th hole.
James Ross won Most Improved for shaving 10 shots on his back nine, after too many errand shots on his front nine 51 followed by an excellent 41 on his back nine after starting hitting it straight.
Most Strokes was a popular category with 7 players needing 10 shots on a hole, but due to the one booby prize rule, since 4 of them also got a skirt on the day, and Mick Dodsworth was OB, only 3 paid for it and are pictured here: John Suermondt, Pieter Nielen-Groen and Niclas Roos.
The Tee Set Monkey stayed in his bag this week, as the less coveted Monster Putter was not awarded since nobody needed 40 putts or more, given everybody actually handled the Pondok Cabe greens very well with a maximum of 37 swings of the Flatstick .
And finally Pondok Cabe produced a healthy 7, or maybe 8 skirts since Jakob Sorensen joined the picture with a somewhat puzzled look even though he was not on the list, along yours truly who continued his record breaking streak of 7 straight skirts, our Web Guy Keith Miller with his magic potion, King Tirto, colorful Steven Pettis, rare cross-dresser Roger Finnie, newcomer Jim Berndt and Mike Webb who seems to have adopted this wig:
