Kedaton, Sunday 5th March 2017

The Day

Sunday saw Tee Set return to Kedaton where we last played in October as the rainy season was just commencing. This week however was in stark contrast with the 21 Tee Setters who turned out being welcomed by bright sunshine and perfect weather. Geoff “The Weather Whisperer” Thwaites explained that the wind had turned yesterday to the East after a couple of weeks of heavy rain thus signaling the official start of the dry season; a fact we all hope will mean dryer courses for the next few months, as was Kedaton yesterday.

Kedaton was in great condition with the fairways providing some extra run and the greens rolling fast and true; meaning we all enjoyed a good and challenging round with only Dave Chew managing to record a net under par round.

We had no Newcomer, but two serious Welcome Backs for Jan Gramm and my old friend  Torben Olsen after a massive 83 weeks and we also welcomed home Jaco Zaayman and Neil Mullins from their travels since the Tee Set Championship 14 weeks ago.

Sadly we also said good-bye to the cigar-loving Anlo du Pisani who played his last Tee Set round (for now hopefully) before heading off to a new position in Nigeria. We all wished Anlo Bon Voyage, gave him a Tee Set golf shirt as a parting gift for his continued support of Tee Set, and he also gave a speech to thank all the Tee Set family for helping him enjoy golf here in Jakarta since joining us in 2013.

The Play

Axel Hertzke won Low Net A Grade for his net 73, Dave Chew won Low Net B Grade with his excellent net 68, while Lis Wymer won Low Net C Grade for her 74.

As Axel had already won a prize, Roger Finnie  was awarded Low gross for his 87 off the stick.

The returning Jaco Zaayman showed he hadn’t lost his touch and won Low Putts with 30.

First Birdie was not awarded this week as two that had managed to record one already won another prize and the third was OB.

First Sandy Par was awarded to the returning Neil Mullins for his effort on his 11th hole.

First Par Over 30 was also not awarded this week, as the only that would have qualified for this category, Lis failed to record one and had anyway won another prize.

Most Improved was shared between Glen Menyennett and Torben Olsen for both shaving 11 shots on their back nine.

Most Strokes went to Jonathan Quek for his 10 shots on a hole.

Once more the Tee Set Monkey stayed in his bag this week, as the less coveted Monster Putter was not awarded since nobody needed 40 putts or more, given everybody actually handled the Kedaton greens very well with a maximum of 38 swings of the Flatstick .

And more surprisingly the Tee Set Skirt also stayed in the bag this week, as nobody failed to pass the ladies tees, no doubt helped by the fact yours truly didn’t play.
