The Day
Even though PT Jasa Marga obviously implemented their strategy to replace the Karang Tengah Toll Gate by adding new ones at each exit before being ready, resulting in increased traffic especially around the Alam Sutera exit, most of the 24 Tee Setters reached Gading Raya in time to be treated to early tee off times.
The playing conditions were ideal, producing a lot of net sub-par rounds on the day, the umbrellas used more to shade us from the sun than the short rain, no delays, so we were all showered and done with the prizes ceremony by 16:30.
The early finish allowed a fair contingent of Tee Setters to consume a few beverages before being picked up by the current and former First Ladies to embark on a culinary and oenological adventure in BSD.
We had 2 Newcomers this week: Danny Parnack visiting from Surabaya and Ronald Dimaculangan increasing our Filipino contingent, to whom we wish a warm Tee Set welcome.
We also had a few Welcome Backs, but really only one worth mentioning, the return of Graham McGeady, after 76 weeks, whose RV tour of Australia has definitely mellowed down, as his smile and good mood made it hard to believe he used to be known as ‘Grumpy’ in Tee Set.
The Play
Jeff Landau showed that playing Gading Raya 3 times a week gave him a mastery of the course by winning Low Net A Grade for his net 70, even though he seemed disappointed not to have instead been awarded Low Gross for his remarkable 76 off the stick. James Ross easily won Low Net B Grade with his incredible net 64. While Mick Dodsworth rebounded from a 9 on his 10th hole to win Low Net C Grade for his fantastic net 65.
Neil Mullins was awarded Low Gross for his excellent 80 off the stick.
Thanks to the one prize rule Richard Mau and President Pascal Bekaert were both awarded Low Putts with 28, from which the latter only needed 12 putts on the front nine prompting him to try and give putting advice to Laurie O’Threeputt O’Connor who was living up to his moniker.
Singing ex-President Craig Ewers and Laurie O’Connor both won First Birdie on their 4th hole, where in case you wonder Laurie didn’t need his putter on the hole as his approach was so close it was deemed a give me.
Ken Runyon won First Sandy Par on his 10th hole.
First Par Over 30 was awarded to Ivan Byriel for his effort on his 6th hole.
Most Improved was not awarded this week as the potential recipients had either already won a prize or were OB.
Once more our Monster Putter Monkey stayed in the bag, as nobody deserved a picture with it, even though Pieter Nielen-Groen was very close to the minimum 40 with his 39 putts.
Most Strokes went to Ivan Byriel for his 11 shots a hole, looking perplexed at the idea of opening his wallet to pay the 50,000 Rp fine.
Not surprisingly President Pastis Pascal ended his streak of no skirt at 1, with a physics defying tee shot that barely passed the blue tees by traveling 179.9 degrees sideways to roll in the lake, but what is surprising is that he was the only one to record a skirt on the day.
