The Day

Ramadan is something of a bonus for Tee Setters as well as for the faithful as the fabulous Bogor area courses become reachable without the need for getting stuck in the appalling traffic normally offered by the Jagorawi Tol on a Sunday.

Today we played the quite amazing Garden Course at Bogor Raya, a course where even if you are playing badly, the beauty of the place is a constant to admire and console you!

Two Newcomers to report in Moritz Kleine-Brockhoff and Kathy Scalabre, welcome to them both – come back often!!

Some notable Welcome Backs in Rick Doll at a more than a year and Bruce Smart at 46 weeks and Nick Gleeson at 35 weeks. After a long sojourn in Thailand, we understand Rick will be a rather more regular Tee Setter in future.

We got away on time at 11:30 – and with something of mini-shotgun start, though that didn’t speed things up much with around 5 hours being the norm.

Weather was super-hot at the start and didn’t get much cooler until the middle of the back nine when it was just about perfect golf weather after a troubling moment or two when it looked like it might even rain. And this without a pawang hujan in sight.

Most of the caddies were “berpuasa” and that none of them dropped out was a tribute to their gameness – and they were mostly good, efficient and clearly well trained as well. A Lebaran bonus was clearly called for!

It may be paranoia, but Tee Set coming to play does seem to encourage some courses to get out and spike their greens and Bogor Raya was not to be an exception with the front nine having been spiked recently – with the inevitable consequences 🙂

Nice post-match venue and with the rather unusual inclusion of dinner in the green fee-and it really wasn’t bad at all, with the chicken roulade at least being rather agreeable to your scribe’s palette anyway!

It is not often that we showcase a course more than our players but the glory that is Bogor Raya needs a boost – so no apologies for these shots from a memorable day.

A great day at a fabulous course and a quick straw poll of those present by the Vice President of Nearly Everything for an early return drew a most positive response. Shame about the macet.

The Play

Top performers on the day were Efsi and Mike Webb with each shooting a net 66 to win Low Net B and C respectively, while the best golf came once again from Richard Mau with an 81-9-72 to take the blue ribbon for Low Net A – leaving Bags to take Low Gross with 84.

Mike, Richard and Efsi, with Efsi having to be grafted on later – unclear whether due to playing an extra 9 holes as usual – or a particularly luxuriant shower 🙂

A relatively high Low Putts of 29 shared by three players was only decided on count-back, well done Raymond Huang! The high count undoubtedly due to those bumpy spiked greens on the front 9 where anything could happen, and often did.

A rather miserable haul of just 2 skirts this week left the Treasurer a little disgruntled.

Fuller, player by player results can be found here and lots more photos taken by the multi-talented Brenda here.

Tee Set Matchplay

Couple of results yesterday:

Jon Pipe beat Ivan Byriel 4 and 2

David Baglivo beat Andrew Waites 6 and 4

Well done to the winners, for the losers there is always next year!

Next Up

Next up is of course our now traditional mid-year weekend away break at the stunning Rancamaya course, carefully timed for the heart of Ramadan this year so we don’t need to spend half a day travelling in either direction.

For those of you who already registered for a room at the Rancamaya “R-Hotel” there is NO NEED to register again for this Sunday, but for those others who just want to join us for the Sunday only, for a very attractive 650,000 Rp including cart, and an official tee off time of 12:30, then please register here.

The Sunday will also see the annual Tee Set v D.O.G.S match embedded within the usual Tee Set fun and games. Captain Ric has his team together more or less but don’t be surprised to get an invitation from him to join the Tee Set team if you haven’t already as team size is a remarkably indeterminate number right now.

See ya at Rancamaya!! … Tee Set

And it’s goodbye from them too …..
