The Day
For the first time since April last year, Sunday was to see us visiting Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD), one of the very top courses around Jakarta, with 36 Tee Setters joining along with 5 guests from Tin Cups as we managed to reel in one of our outstanding Inter-League matches in parallel with our regular Sunday outing.

the practice green was in superb condition – unlike some of its brothers on the course
With the Inter-league match ongoing several players arrived early for a warm-up only to discover a wedding being set up on the practice range and we therefore practiced our pre-match gossiping and breakfasting instead when there was certainly plenty of lively chatter before we teed off bang on schedule at 11:42.
Brilliant sunshine welcomed us along with greens which were playing reasonably well despite the usual Lebaran maintenance so it was a little disappointing not to have been forewarned of the ongoing fairway maintenance impacting several holes.
Overall play went very smoothly although some got caught in a heavy rain shower for a few holes towards the back-end of the round however not enough to stop any of the groups finishing their rounds and certainly not affecting the scoring as several good rounds were posted as you will see below.
The wedding mentioned above was also to be affected by the heavy rain and was moved indoors resulting in our being consigned to one of the club’s cavernous underground bomb shelters.

Finally a warm Tee Set welcome to Erik Streed and indeed a couple of notable Welcome Backs in Todd Roesler after a quite outstanding 133 weeks and Hannu Hirvela after 49 weeks. We hope to see all of you frequently at future events 🙂
The Play

Some excellent scores today were headlined by Bill Lloyd’s net 65 to win Low Net B Grade where he was joined in the winner’s circle by Axel Hertzke and Matt Otto as Low Net A and C Grade respectively; Matt benefiting from Tom Alcedo’s absence and Debbie already picking up a prize.
Newly elected President Roger Finnie was to demonstrate that the responsibilities of his position are not affecting his game overmuch in continuing his good form with an 82 off the stick to take Low Gross.
Amongst the skills prizes, Alastair Livingston won 1st Birdie for his effort on hole while Rudie Basson took First Sandy par as early as hole 2.
A 3 way tie for 1st Par >= 30 by Debbie, Lina and Tom but with Tom AWOL only the ladies managed to grace the picture.
Liz Wymer managed to more than offset her Monster Putter fine for a field leading 41 putts by taking Most Improved in shaving off a full 10 strokes coming home.
A paltry solo skirt from Vanco Pop-Petrovski today for which we express out appreciation, however, the Treasurer’s disappointment at this unusually low contribution to Tee Set funds was more than made up for by a 4 way tie for Most Strokes of 10 shots by all of Hannu Hirvela, Kim Pham, Matto Otto and Todd Roesler. Well done all.
Fuller, player by player, results are here while more pictures of the day can be seen on the Tee Set Gallery.

Interleague versus Tin Cups
Tee Set played Tin Cups in a catch-up match and it was a very tight affair with 4 of the games being decided on the 18th green. Unfortunately for us, Tin Cups shaded those matches 5-3 on the way to an overall 7-3 win. Congratulations to Tin Cups and thank you to the Tee Set players who stepped in and played for us in the absence of many of our regulars due to holidays.
Tee Set Matchplay 2017
A reminder that the current round of the match-play is due by 30th July and at the time of writing, 6 of the 8 games in this round remain to be played. If you do not wish to have the result determined at the mercy of the Match-play Supremo and current Champion, James Ross, please arrange for your games to be played over the next 3 weeks. A reminder also to send your result to James by email afterwards as usual.
Schedule update
We have had a few changes to the schedule for a variety of reasons so please check out the the updated schedule. The most notable change, as we announced on Sunday, is that Tee Set’s 34th Birthday Scramble will now be held on 6th August – more details on that will follow shortly.
The Singing President’s BBQ
Next Sunday, and after play at Pangkalan Jati, we will have a BBQ at the conveniently located, just off Jl. Antasari home of the still Singing but now Ex-President, Craig Ewers.
Having spent his 2 year presidency in a loft of Ann Frank proportions, opportunities for hosting such an event were limited however a recent move South to a proper house means he can finally meet his contractual obligations. With a noon tee time at PJ we expect the festivities to kick off around 6pm.
Spouses, partners and kids are welcome to join even if not playing on the day, with food, beers. softies and the ever popular Margarita machine all being funded from Tee Set coffers. You are however encouraged to bring along a little wine and any other beverage you might favour to ensure the evening goes well.
To give us an idea on numbers please indicate in the comments section of the usual sign-up form if you intend coming to the barbie – and, if so, with how many “significant others?”
An address and a map to Craig’s house will be sent by separate e-mail to all those who tell us they intend coming.
Next Up
As mentioned. Sunday has us returning to the friendly but tricky-in-parts Pangkalan Jati at Rp565,000 walking and a further Rp220,000 for a cart to be shared between 2 players wishing to avoid the very moderate hilly bits of a walking friendly course – one of the few remaining courses in the Jakarta area providing the opportunity to stretch your legs.
Sign up here to join the fun if you haven’t already.
See yah at PJ and the rest! …… Tee Set
