The Day
Sunday’s competition at BSD saw us rescheduling the day to Matoa Nasional who as usual were very accommodating and welcomed the 34 Tee Setters who joined the day to enjoy the beautiful sunny weather and the dry, fast fairways. Despite a small competition going on in the afternoon also, we were all finished in good time and enjoying a beer when a small thunderstorm hit as it turned dark and the prize giving was ongoing. The dry conditions on the course led to some very good scores, more of which is reported on below.
4 New-comers were given a warm Tee Set Welcome, Father and Daughter Ary and Amelia Priadi, Alexander Thielitz and long-time resident but joining Tee Set for the first time (at least as far as our records are concerned), William Daniel. Amelia joins the growing ranks of our juniors and we look forward to seeing you all out again soon.
A notable welcome back too to Andreas Jansen after 86 weeks.
The Play
Some very good scores on the day with many players managing to score below their handicaps. Husband and Wife, Mike and Reni Riley were amongst the leaders in Low Net C but were beaten to the prize by Kim Pham’s excellent net 62 as she recorded her best ever Tee Set round. Keeping with the household connections, Kim was joined by Al Livingston who won Low Net A with his net 69. Al and Kim were joined by Jari Antikainen who took home Low Net B with his also excellent 64 to edge out Laurie O’Connor by 1 stroke.
Low Gross was awarded to Stuart Wigley for his Gross 79, a score he shared with Jeff Landau who was awarded First Birdie for his effort on hole 6.
Jari came home in level par to improve his front nine score by 12 strokes which whilst it was Most Improved, he fell victim to the one prize rule as did Al and Kim for First Sandy (hole 3) and First Par => 30 Handicap (hole 15), respectively.
Jari also had Low Putts on the day, but the prize was awarded to Craig Binks for his next best effort of 26 putts. With no Skirts recorded on the day, and Most Strokes recipient Taylor Bowles already OB at the prize giving, our single fine for the day fell to new-comer Alexander Thielitz for his Monster Putter effort of 40 strokes with the flat stick.
2 match-plays were played out on the day. Jari Antikainen’s level par back nine brought him back from 5 down at the turn to run out the winner over Mike Webb and move onto the Tee Set Match-play final. Nick Gleeson and William Daniel were also battling it out in the Pocksia Match-play with Nick prevailing with a final hole birdie to win 1 up.
A final word of thanks to Mark Johnson and Laurie O’Connor for helping out the President with Sunday’s administration as our usual support was not available. More detailed results of the day are here.
Next Up: Pangkalan Jati 12pm Sunday 17th September
One of the old favourites to which we return from time to time, Pangkalan Jati is a unique and challenging course which will see you using rather more of the contents of your bag than any other in the Jakarta area.
We will be there again on Sunday for a midday start and green fees of Rp565,000 walking – and with a further Rp220,000 for a cart to be shared if possible between 2 players at that price – so make sure you have someone to share your cart with you or you will lose out. A reminder that their booking in system does not reconginze the tee time and so early sign-up’s on the day will get charged at the morning rate: get yourselves ready and be prepared for a little scramble at 12pm as we head out to the tee.
If you haven’t done so yet then sign up for the fun at PJ here.
Note there is also this Sunday a Inter-League match for Tee Set Too at Jagorawi against leaders Tin Cups so Inter-League Captain Roger Finnie will be in touch with the team to sign up players for this match. Tee Set’s match against Mad Dogs was also scheduled for Sunday but as they cannot raise a side the match is scratched already.
