The Day
With Inter-league also being played on Sunday and therefore taking away several regular players for both Tee Set and other teams, a small but select group of 20 Tee Setters headed out to one of Tee Set’s old favourite courses, Pangkalan Jati.
A compact but tricky lay-out requires the use of most of the clubs in one’s bag as well as care and patience to come away with a good score. Pangkalan Jati’s penchant for catching the unwary is usually reflected in a low number of scores at or below handicap and this visit was no exception despite the excellent weather and playing conditions, with only 1 score under handicap recorded on the day. More on the results below.
As usual, after the 12pm rush to register and pay due the old booking system at the course, play got off smoothly and we were round in a relatively quick 4 1/2 hours; meaning we had plenty of time to enjoy a beer, recognize the winners on the day and still get away before sunset.
No new-comers or welcome backs of significant note this week but a big thank you from President Roger Finnie to Keith and Santi Miller for helping out with all the admin on the day so we could give our secretaries a Sunday off again.
The Play
With only 20 players on the day, we managed to capture 75% of them onto the honours board of the day above albeit the number of actual prizes and fines were relatively low making for a fairly short end of day presentation.
After last week’s blank, it was good to see 3 skirts this week with Chris Till, Lorenzo Marengo and Hal Loevy able to each get a good part of the outfit for the photo. Most Strokes and the coveted photo with the monkey was picked up by Goetz Ebbecke for his 11 strokes on 1 hole.
No putting awards or fines this week with everybody having a good day on the greens and the low putters already recognized for other skill prizes. Most Improved with a unusually low improvement for Tee Set was Manfred Borer who came back 5 strokes better than his front 9 to pip Meta and Hal by 1 stroke of improvement.
With VP of almost Everything Ric Wymer busy with the prize presentation photos, he failed to note that his effort on hole 3 was over-looked and therefore Richard Green took home the prize for First Birdie. Perhaps a beer to share next week Ric and Richard!
Low Gross for his 87 off the stick was awarded to Ryan Shepherd after President Roger Finnie was awarded Low Net A for his net 72. He was joined by Don Duttlinger who shot a best net of the day 68 to win Low Net B and Meta Sari who won Low Net C for her net 74.
Meta would also have won First Par for handicaps =>30 but for the 1 prize rule.
Detailed results of the day are here and photos of the day here.
As for the aforementioned Inter-League, Tee Set Too were playing the league leaders Tin Cups and a strong performance held Tin Cups to a narrow victory as our team went down 6-4 after losing the final game on 18th hole. Thank you to all the players representing Tee Set and the last round of Inter-league will be played on 1st October; more details are here.
