The Day
The last Sunday of the month saw us heading back to Padang Modern Golf for a 3 in 1 golfing day with our regular Sunday event also being the September Monthly Medal and the final installment of Eclectic Round VI which had been held over from August.
A healthy turnout of 43 Tee Setters were there well on time and all organized for our published two tee start when we learnt of what is now becoming a customary late change to the arrangements. However, the Modern starters organized a semi-shot gun start off holes 1 to 5 in their usual efficient manner resulting in us all getting off close to 12pm after a little chaos as players had to find which hole and cart their bags had been assigned to.
A bright sunny morning had given way to the threat of some rain as we headed out and whilst a few small showers fell towards the start and end of the round, reminding us that the rainy season is not far away, the weather stayed mainly dry for us all to finish in good time. The course played in good condition and the scores recorded reflected this.
Two newcomers were welcomed this week, Andrew Shaw and Daniel Brown both pictured below getting to know their new golfing comrades.
Amongst the welcome backs we had Tim Knight after 95 weeks and Murray Samuel after 50 weeks.
A thank you to Beby and Liz Wymer for helping out with all the arrangements and scoring on the day.
The Play
Our Monthly Medal skill prizes were picked up by regular winner David Baglivo for his Long Drive effort of 245m and Ken Runyon for getting to 150cm from the hole for NTP.
Kathy Scalabre using borrowed clubs had a small prize giving session to herself as she took home the prize for Most Improved coming back 15 shots better on her back nine.
This being directly correlated to her Most Strokes effort of 15 on a hole and Monster Putter of 57 strokes with the flat stick. The one fine rule enable Kathy to at least retain half of winnings whilst also getting pictured with the Monkey.
A single skirt on the day enabled Kelly Chaisson to enjoy the full selection of the dress up collection. Low Putts was won by Jeff Landau who needed only 25 strokes on the greens, with First Birdie awarded to Rob Cheng and First Sandy to Efsi Hayati for their efforts on holes 1 and 8, respectively.
Tim Knight showed he is in fine form despite not playing with Tee Set for almost 2 years with a best of the day 75 for Low Gross. Juju Juhairiah despite shooting her Tee Set best ever round of 97 Gross, net 63, was pipped for both Low Net C and the monthly medal but took home First Par for Handicaps =>30 for her effort on hole 3.
Low Net C was awarded to former President, Pascal Bekaert who also shot his Tee Set best round of Net 62 where he was joined by Low Net B winner Dave Chew, net 65 and Low Net A winner Ken Runyon, net 67.
These excellent rounds where however not enough to take home the Monthly Medal which was won for the second time in 4 months by Laurie O’Connor with 47 stableford points. With the last minute cancellation of the VP of Almost Everything due to work commitments, we did not have the monthly medal, shield and Grand Slam Golf voucher to present on the day and will award these to Laurie at a future event. As a repeat winner we do have a file photo in lieu!
Photos of the day are posted here and more details of the player by player results here.
Eclectic Cycle VI
With both of Laurie’s Monthly Medal wins falling in the same Eclectic cycle, and already at the head of the leader board with 3 others, a straw poll of scores on the day indicates that he will have also won the Eclectic Cycle VI event too. However, the official tallying of results for the Eclectic is being done at the time of going to press and the result will be confirmed shortly.
Next Up
Next week sees us with competing events. The regular Tee Set event will be at Matoa Nasional which also plays well and is a very reasonable Rp650,000. Tee time is 11.30am and please sign up here if you are interested in joining us.
Inter-League is also taking place as the final round of matches at Jagorawi will involve both Tee Set versus Sandbaggers and Tee Set Too versus Sentul Swingers. Captain Roger Finnie is looking for players still so please contact him directly if you can play.
