The Day
Sunday saw us return to Cengkareng for the final round of the World Cup event. We arrived to slightly threatening winds and sky but the day remained dry and as usual it was a very enjoyable walk around the rolling fairways. Although we teed off pretty much on time, the pleasant walk obviously was being enjoyed too much by some as we ended up being slightly slower going round this week albeit we all just finished in time.
Several changes to personnel in teams this week and quite a few extra players outside of the World Cup teams made for some additional administration but it was, as always, handled with the minimum of fuss by VP of almost Everything Ric Wymer and Secretary Brenda; a huge thank you to both of them for the organization over the 2 week-ends in making the event run smoothly.
Amongst the new players this week, we had 4 new-comers, Christian Sinz, Jack Fox, Sofie Bright and Desmond Wright. A warm welcome to each of them and we look forward to seeing you at future events. We also has a number of welcome backs of which Markus Veikkola (49 weeks) Mikko Koskivirta (45 weeks) and Chris Cromarty (31 weeks) were the most notable.
With both daily prizes and the overall World Cup prizes to award we had a late finish in the club house rounded off by wishing Simon Reynolds a warm “au revoir” as he departs in a week to take up a new position as GM for Finna Golf course in Surabaya. Once Simon has settled in we will look to arrange a trip over to play I am sure.
The Play
Whilst the main event was the overall World Cup team event with the best 3 individual stableford scores counting for the team, we also recognized several individual performances and results on the day.
Although hard and fast on the fairways, there were still some long carries from the Blue to the Red tees and so an impressive 8 skirts were recorded on a day. We managed capture most of them in the photo: Jaco Zaayman, Andrew Waite, Pekka Kiviola, Pascal Bekaert, King Tirto and Andrew Abram along with new-comers Markus Veikkola and Mikko Koskivirta.
First Birdie went to Stuart Wigley for his effort on hole 1, Low Putts to Desmond Wright for his 28 putts and First Sandy to Simon Reynolds for his double sandy effort on hole 5.
Best of the non-World Cup players was won by King Tirto for his net 72 effort for which he took home a bottle of wine donated by President Roger Finnie. Last of the individual prizes awarded on the day was shared between Anna Wilson and Wina Nugraha who both had 42 stableford points for their respective teams of UK and Srikandi1.
Best team scores on the day was won by Team UK of Simon Reynolds, Anna Wilson, Frank Wilson and Roger Finnie who each took home a bottle of wine for their team 109 points, just edging out Team Srikandi2 who scored 106 points on the day. Overall however the positions were reversed with Team Srikandi2 recording 195 points over the 2 days combined to win by 4 points from Team UK with Srikandi1 placing 3rd.
Final team placings are as above and the individual scores on the day here and as usual the photos of the day here.
Match-play
The match-play is down to the final with the departing Simon Reynolds sure to have played the winner having beaten Kunning finalist Jari Antikainen in the preliminary round and lost to Tony Horwath in the Emas bracket final. Good luck to both players and a reminder the match is due to be finished by 12th November so we can award the winners trophy at the Championship on 26th November.
Next Up: Pondok Cabe 22nd October 2017
Next Sunday see us return to Pondok Cabe for our second visit of the year. Whilst not the most challenging layout we play during the year, it is always a relaxed round and exceptionally good value both on the course and in the club house.
