The Day
The antepenultimate round of the calendar year and our last Monthly Medal for 2017 saw us heading to Padang Modern for the honour of being the holder of the shield at the year end and to enjoy a relaxing day away from the Christmas crowds in the shopping malls of Jakarta.
Heavy rains in the morning and over the previous week resulted in us playing lift, clean & place for the first time in many months but fortunately, despite some light rainfall during the round, there were no interruptions for the weather. We were also fortunate that Modern’s starter pushed us out early ahead of a large grouping so, apart from VP Ric Wymer needing to chase us down the first fairway having got caught in traffic on the way to Modern, we were all finished in good time for us to be heading home well before dark.
With schools already broken up and some players away for the holiday, we still had a healthy turn-out of 34 players on the day. 3 new-comers were given a Tee Set welcome, Nicki Stuart, Stefan Skibnski and Rao Atif. We also had a very long welcome back to an old (or should one say tenured?) Tee Setter, Chuck Jeffrey, who’s last round predated the database so he appears as a new comer. We look forward to welcoming them all back to another event soon.
A thank you to Brenda for managing all the administration and results on the day including all the photos which you can find here.
The Play
Stefan Skibnski continued our recent trend of newcomers getting into the skirt photo with his very first shot in Tee Set pulling up in the long grass just before the Ladies tee on hole number 1. Joining Stefan with the skirt were more seasoned Tee Setters, VP Bill Lloyd and Mick Dodsworth.
With no Monster Putter today, our other fine on the day went to Laurie O’Connor for his 12 strokes on a hole. Spared the blushes of Most Strokes, Mick Dodsworth was however, able to capitalize on his 10 strokes on a hole to record an impressive Most Improved of 14 strokes and recover his skirt fine.
First Sandy was a family affair with Octo and Andrew Abram sandy’s being the only ones recorded on the day but, being absent at the prize giving, we were unable to award the prize to Andrew. Low Putts was won by Chris Lever for his 26 putts on the day and Mike Webb took home first Birdie for his effort on hole 6.
Mark Johnson and Roger Finnie took home Low Gross for their scores of 85 whilst an almost repeat of last week’s results saw Mark Fiorello and Steve Moruzzi with Low Net A and B respectively. Rusty Witwer in his last game with Tee Set before returning to California was however pipped by Mike Harling for Low Net C to prevent the full repeat. Details of all the individual players results are here.
For the Monthly Medal awards, Long Drive winners Glen Menyennett and Wina Nugraha had both departed by time the prizes were being handed out but Jari Rahtu was able to collect his prize as Nearest the Pin winner. A bit of a fisherman’s tale saw this recorded as 3.20 cm but later Jari did say it was more like 3.2m.
Monthly Medal honours went to Vanco Pop-Petrovski adding both a new name and new nationality to our list of Monthly Medal winners. Vanco will receive his medal and voucher at a later event as he was also one of the early departures.
The day was wrapped up by President Roger Finnie wishing Rusty a safe trip home to California and all the Tee Setters unable to make next week’s event, a Merry Christmas and happy holiday season.
Next Up: Pangkalan Jati Sunday 24th December 2017
Tee Set has never missed a week-end in over 34 years and Christmas Eve will be no exception with us heading to our traditional home at Pangkalan Jati for a day as much focused on having fun and celebrating the festive season as it will be on the golf. President Roger Finnie will bring some Xmas cheer to warm up proceedings and you are encouraged to come dressed to impress!.
Usually a quiet day we can expect to get round quickly and maybe even get off well ahead of our scheduled start time of 12pm so please be a little earlier if you can – last year we off before 11.30am and all finished by 4.30pm.
Price is Rp550,000 walking and a shared cart is Rp250,00 per cart. If you are staying in Jakarta for Christmas Day then come and join us by signing up here.
For those who missed the Championships or played but are looking for a second Tee Set shirt for 2017/18, we have some shirts, hats and towels which are available for a heavily subsidized price of Rp300,000 a set. Please note in your sign-up in the comments section if you would like to purchase them and we will bring them along on the day.
